If you ask to attend some practices, at U11/U12 you'll probably practice with the red group first. The coach for that group is essentially the age group director and knows the players from all colors (I've seen him often coach/observe the other colors). So, decent chance you'll get an appropriate placement notwithstanding some colors being totally full and such. Good luck!
If they know the teams where you are coming from, they will try to place you most appropriately for the first practice based on that.

No one new has joined Pre-MLS next team U12 boys. That’s the top team for that age group. Not sure re red team.

My son used to play for Alexandria. If you mean that there are at least some quality players on all of the teams, I totally agree. If you mean that the players on the bottom teams are quality in general, as a whole, I disagree. When my son was younger, he was somewhat overweight, and so he was not a top player, and belonged on a lower team because he was not that fast - I am totally fine with that. But what we saw were a group of kids who were unable to grasp some of the concepts that Alexandria is trying to teach. When kids don't have basic technical skills or understanding of the game, spending a ton of time on pattern play isn't productive.
I was trying to be nice and encourage a family to join without knowing the kid's talent level. Yes, now that the cat is out of the bag, the top team and the bottom team are nowhere comparable in skill level. But, I'm sure they would have figured that out.

Yes of course, and that is totally fine. Point is that they should train the "less talented" kids on improving their fitness and developing more basic technical skills. Not that there is anything at all wrong with being on a bottom team and working to improve. Since that is exactly what my own child did, elsewhere, clearly, I think that is a good objective.

Unfortunately CCL is a joke for the most part.
That, I will agree. Which is why my son's Arlington team is playing D1 of NSCL this year instead.
