We are still a few years out, but are starting to look. Does anyone have information on Maderia and their ballet program?

We went through this process last year and did not submit scores (DC didn't even take test). We were told that by admissions that if your student has scores that fall in their published average range or above, you should submit. We were accepted at one school and waitlisted at 2 and I feel like if our scores had been in average range for them, it might have pushed her into acceptance at one of the schools. That being said, the school where she was admitted was her first choice (though probably the least competitive) so I don't regret the way it worked out.

NMH is beautiful and kids are super nice. The downside is that its far from Hartford Airport, 70 minutes, and probably too long of a drive from DC.

I second NMH! One upside of its remote location is that it was able to hold classes in person throughout the pandemic. I realize that your kids may not be athletes, but this article sums up the profile of NMH and its students pretty well.

Mercersburg has always been a very respectable boarding school with excellent academics. I like the place for not being as "entitled" as a number of the New England boarding schools. They received a massive donation some years ago and it's being put to good use. Many students do come from small towns around Pennsylvania.

I'm sure there are students who didn't go straight to college - because that happens at every school. Including elite schools.

The "LOL why? Seriously why?" is just disparaging. There is no need to make fun of people that are considering Mercerberg. I have no idea if the statement that kids that went there did not end up at college but I would assume that a family considering this school would look at the college matriculation statistics if that was important to them.

Maybe, but it does tend to take a lot of kids that were counseled out by the top day schools in their area

Being counseled out by the top day schools means that that school was not the right fit for that student. It has no bearing on what Mercerberg offers students. Not every child is a fit for NCS, Sidwell, St. Albans or Exeter, Andover, or Hotchkiss. The best thing parents can do is find the right school for the child they have.
