It was a combo of current students and grads of a fraternity whose had lost their house due to hazing. They got drunk (may have been homecoming) and went over to their old house - which is now a LGBTQ community house. They acted like total asses, harassed current residents to let them in, scared the hell out of the current house residents who called security. Security guard didn’t take it seriously enough at first but that was remedied quickly and The guys got in a ton of trouble. All current students were expelled I believe. Grads no longer welcome to campus. Bucknell took it very seriously and most students were supportive of that response by school (incld my son who said the guys who did it were awful).

My son is a junior engineering major. He loves it. He is in a fraternity but one of the nerdier ones (like him) with many engineers. There are kids who take advantage of surrounding outdoors to ski, hike, go offroading, etc…. I’ve met many of his friends - guys and girls. Nice kids. I think you can get a fantastic education and the grads definitely do well. He went to top DC private but it seems to be a mix of kids from public and private. Pulls mostly from east coast - VA to ME.

Not sure how BC got in there because it has nothing to do with the other three but otherwise accurate.
- Colgate grad, Bucknell was my second choice

I used to be faculty there. The students mostly were very rich and not very good—but the few who were good could get a really great education, because the faculty are really devoted.

The notion that engineering students don't party is off base, engineering has a strong bro culture especially management.

My daughter had an excellent experience there. She was not remotely interested in Greek life and does not drink. She had excellent teachers and there was lots to do on campus. She had a merit scholarship and it cost us the same as a Virginia state school. She got some great internships.

I am sure there are kids there that drink all the time, but the ones I got to know were not like that. I liked that the classes were small and taught by professors, not TAs. My daughter went out to eat in the small town with other kids and professors and felt very connected there.

We are not rich by any means. It was clear from the bumper stickers on cars at Parents Weekends that lots of kids came from private schools, but mine went to public school.

We will be forever grateful that she was able to attend Bucknell.

My DC thought it was too isolated, too Greek and not serious enough. Chose W&M and saved us the extra tuition.

My family is from the area. Town isn't cute. Maybe not a dump, but close. Students are drunk Tuesday through Sunday.

This is same for the Bucknell grads I know. All smart and professionally successful, but also started on second base due to well to do upbringings. They also seem to have a lot of loyalty/fond memories of the school.

Another GDI here. I look back fondly on my time there. I had to work hard and have not been as successful as many of my classmates. Still…no regrets.

There’s a strong alumni network and very good employment opportunities for grads.

I have sponsored students for internships and externships and have been very happy with the quality of the students.

My own kids chose to go elsewhere — to other Patriot League and Centennial Conference schools, where they joined fraternities. They also had good experiences and have good jobs.

I went and was GDI. I had a great time - the Greek life was definitely dominant but ignoring it was certainly possible. Great education.

Most people were fairly well off, but I came from a rust belt town. There wouldn’t be the same culture shock coming from McLean or Bethesda.

I know a bunch of people who went there. They all come from money and are bright. All do very well 25 years later, and they are still friends with bucknell people.
