0 with current senior. She has been completely self-sufficient and a self-starter for years. I asked if she wanted/needed my help and she said no, I've got this. And she does.

I'm guessing I'll have to be more hands-on with younger sibling, though. But we have a few years for kid to mature some more, so fingers crossed.

Like 0.5, maybe will get to 1 by Nov 1. Just to look over what’s in the common app. I gave a one word suggestion on an ED supplemental so far.

For us, it varies a lot by phase:

College research and deciding on the list - 5. I am super into the college research and do most of the work to surface ideas for my kids and schedule the info sessions and tours. Ultimately, they decide which of the schools I suggest ends up on their list (my only requirement being that at least one must be a financial+admissions safety. I'm basically taking the role lots of people pay a college counselor to do.

Test prep - 1. I pay for the tutor, other than that no involvement

Actual applications - 3. Set up a shared tracking spreadsheet and check in once a week or so. Do a proofread of the essays and the CA before it goes out.

Never read an essay for any of the kids or saw the applications. They are completely done with them.

I think for most people, it's KID dependent. Then you have some outlier, helicopter parents but I would say that with most of us, it's all about what the kid needs or allows. I know that I couldn't take charge of my "zero" kid's applications even if I wanted to. She wouldn't allow it.

I was a 2 maybe. We had really good college counseling at school so my role was mainly support - paying for things, transportation, proofreading if requested.
