Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and can be very culturally dependent. I have a coworker who makes a lot out of her daughter’s platinum blonde hair. I feel sorry for the kid if it darkens because that is all her mother ever brags about.

I don’t think those comments are meant to be taken literally or as an objective fact the way that you might be hearing them, OP.

These kinds of threads are hilarious. You know there’s a particular person OP is talking about who really gets under OP’s skin for other reasons, and OP is looking for people to trash the other mom with her but has no friends who will get on that train, and she knows if she posts what’s really going on everyone will tell her she’s the problem, not the other mom. So instead OP generalizes it to all moms so other posters will fall all over themselves to show that they’re not like that, they’re cool moms.

My reaction to the title of this thread is “how dare you???” Haha

No way, my kids are the most beautiful kids in the world.

It’s like I know she’s not perfectly photogenic or classically gorgeous, but I also think she’s completely stunning in a way perhaps only someone who loves her as much as I do can see? It’s hard to explain.

DP. I don’t think you know what narcissism is.

Unless these parents are trying to force their kids into modeling careers, who TF cares? Why does OP need other parents to tell her their own children are less attractive than others?

Yes, we can see it. Not a guarantee for a happy life so I don't give it much thought.

Yes. I have always had a reasonable sense of my kids’ relative attractiveness and abilities. I think this is true of most parents I’ve met, with one exception. In my community, the more ambitious and rich you are (especially pronounced among BigLaw attorneys) the more likely you are to have an unrealistically positive view of your kid’s athleticism. Generally true among parents in this subset who played sports and those who didn’t. I would like someone to do a social study on this.

This. But there are a lot of narcissists out there. And just super competitive parents who will not admit that anyone is better than their off-spring in anything.

I think parents who say that don't want to be judged. We can all clearly see if a child is very good looking but heaven forbid we say anything like that in public. Would definitely be called a "bad mother" so best to keep it to yourself.

So much this.
But obviously there's a reason the stereotype of 'a woman who becomes a mom and suddenly becomes clueless' exists.
