This is false. I sub 4 days a week, some weeks a full 5, and have for years (and virtual through covid). No amount of hours offers you any kind of health care. If you work a certain number of hours you do qualify for a bonus.
This is a stupid policy - MCPS gives health insurance to crossing guards, who don’t work 40 hours. If they gave health insurance to subs for a similar number of hours worked, they would have no problem getting subs.

DH is a sub. $19.20/hr. in MCPS. He only puts on a movie if directed by the teacher. The good teachers will leave clear instructions on what material to cover. Often times, they don't. He also doesn't allow kids to take over the class.

It's so stupid that MCPS kicked out a lot of subs just because they didn't want to navigate subbing on Zoom or had concerns about vaccine access in the spring.

I might be wrong but I would bet there is not a school system anywhere that offers subs health care benefits. They do get more pay if they are a long term sub, meaning like half the school year. But you can't just add subs on and off your health insurance plan like that. One must be actually hired as a full time or permanent part time employee to get health care benefits, leave, etc. If someone knows of a school district where this not true please correct me.

How many days? How does the health care contribution work? Do you have to be on a long term sub contract or is it just the sum of a certain number of one-off subs per month?
I could sub but the pay is so low, it’s not worth it. By the time I pay for taxes and transportation, I probably net less than $50. As PP’s point out, I can make more babysitting. But healthcare would make it more attractive.

You act like it’s 1994 and that still happens. Teachers have to write exhaustive sub plans.
