Effexor made me extremely tired. Extremely. And the withdrawal was awful once I weaned off. I don't have those issues with Zoloft.

I used a workbook to stop this behavior while I was on an anxiety med. Not sure that the book matters b/c it's all the same content. Look up "anxiety workbook" on amazon and yo'ull see what i mean

OP: Please note that posters are giving you drugs that are in completely different classes so they all work differently. Something that works for them may not work for you. So, unfortunately, you might have to try a few things.

I too took effexor and I didn't have many side effects and coming off did cause brain zaps and fog but that lasted less than 2 weeks and I went cold turkey given a sudden and serious illness. My side effects on therapy were tiredness for about an hour after it hit my system (maybe brain fog is a better word for it) and emotionlessness. For example, I spent all of my savings on a house downpayment and felt nothing. No nerves. No elation, nothing. It was weird.

Paxil has been a lifesaver for me, and I've been on it for almost 27 years. It can be hard to get off of, but it really does an amazing job with anxiety, depression, and over-thinking. No weight gain, no brain fog, no numbness. Seriously a miracle drug. Works much better than a lot of the newer ones, IMHO. Truly life changing for me.

I gained weight on Zoloft and it wasn’t that effective for me. I’ve been on Effexor for close to a decade now. It scares me to read all the stories about how horrible it is to get off of it. But for now I’m just grateful it works and will continue taking it. My life is so much better without my obsessive thoughts.

Yeah I did not like how lexapro numbed my emotions. Ugh.
