My unwanted advice to all my pregnant friends and colleagues is to stop reading the pregnancy books I the third trimester and start reading the baby books (I liked what to expect the first year and the American academy of pediatricians book). I was so tired after my first was born I didn’t read anything until she was two months old and then had all these “Oh, that would have been helpful to know 5 weeks ago” moments. It’s like reading the instructions before you start assembling the furniture…
So no worries OP!! Get a good book and ask for help when you don’t know!

Baby is on liquid diet. So poops will be more liquid than you may expected.

Yellow and mustardy is normal for that age. They will poop all the time. Sometimes when feeding (super fun). They don't have control yet so as more food comes in the poop must go out. You are doing great!
And yes it sounds like they are struggling with it sometimes, Its ok too.

Just remember that your baby is learning how to poop! They might struggle for a while longer but you’ll start to recognize the warning signs and when it’s a poop they are struggling with.

An eight month old’s diet is VERY different from a newborn’s.

Sounds totally normal.

That’s normal if you are breastfeeding.

+1 to PACE, and that you’re doing great! Just don’t take any drastic steps like a crazy diet without checking it out. It’s okay to ask your pediatrician about anything!

+1 totally normal not to know! And now you can stop restricting your diet which is wonderful for all. Ask questions of dcum, your friends and family - everyone has been there!

my breastfed newborn had a poopy diaper with almost every diaper change for at least the first three weeks. I think there is a wide variation of normal. Now she is every 3-5 days (4.5 months old).

It's OK OP, you have a 5 day old! It's hard. Imagine if we didn't have Google and DCUM. Keep coming back and asking questions, it's no bother.

Normal poop and feel free to ask questions! That's how you learn.

Sounds perfectly normal! And breastfed babies do poop a lot. Mine used to poop at least 2-3 times a day, small quantities.

Echoing that you're doing great, OP! I remember how weird and anxious the whole poop thing was in that first week or two but yeah, this sounds quite normal as I recall. DD is now almost 4 and it's surprising what percentage of DH's, my, and her nanny's conversations still revolve around poop so, I guess just to say go ahead and settle in for the long haul, LOL.
