I live in mine. It’s perfect when it gets colder out and I don’t want to deal with bulk. I get them with high collars.

I personally love vests, and so do my kids because they hate larger, bulky jackets. I have a hard time getting them to wear a jacket when it's not super cold out as a result, so they end up being cold on chilly days when it isn't quite cold enough to warrant a full jacket.

I personally wouldn't get one with a hood, but I think it could go either way. If your kids like hoods, do it. Otherwise, no.

There's no real right or wrong. They are a supplement to regular clothes when it would be too cold to go without a jacket but is not cold enough to require one -- so just get whatever looks/feels good. No need to be waterproof because... it's a vest.

We got a vest for DS for Christmas photos when he was in preschool. That’s the last time anyone in my house wore one.

I’m the opposite, prefer a vest for all but the coldest weather.

My kids, on the other hand, choose hoodies over anything.

The only vest I own was free from work (you know, the stupid fleece vest all companies give out with the embroidered logo)….the midtown uniform vest

My kid liked having a vest in elementary school because the heat can be unpredictable and it can keep them warm without overheating. We would dress in layers and send a vest.

Depends what you mean by "vest".
Wear what you want, OP!
