30 plus year Phish fan here. All I can say is, you either get it or you don't. If it's not your thing, great. But it is for many. So much so that they were about to sell out MSG for 13 nights in a row. No other band has ever done that. So its about much more than just drugs. I have tons of friends from the scene, and none of us do drugs at shows.

MY husband used to have a pretty senior job at Madison Square Garden and we had to go to the phish concert on New Years Eve. I was like - WTH? Terrible. Same song for 3 hours and people loved it! They sell out every day in NY during the holidays.

So its definitely about some kind of community for them, based on the music. Not my vibe at all, like even a little. But I get how communities like that build.

Does law enforcement ever get involved in these concerts?

I saw them in concert when I was 19 in a terribly hot, uncomfortable club. I left after 4 or 5 songs. It was so hot it was probably dangerous and the music was awful. I assume this is music that you can't enjoy sober.

My bf is a dead head groupie, not so much now with COVID and the pot smoking I think happens at these events. I abhor the music except sort of like John Mayer, but I digress. He wanted to go to Phish, but it was a solid No Thank You, with a icy glare and, “I’m sure”. He says you don’t get it. He is right, and I am ok with that.

Me too! When I was 18 (1998) and met them with my friends after a show, they took us back to their tour bus and gave us whippets, and Mike made out with my roommate for what seemed like hours (she was also 18, he was 33). They never asked us our ages and we were sheltered teens who looked young. I'm less impressed with this now. A bunch of 30 something men picked up a bunch of 18 year olds, took them to their bus, got them high, and one of the guys made out with one of them.

Their music is Dead-esque, and so is the fanbase.

It means that PP finds them appealing. “Come on man”
