My kids is in a specialty program with about 120 kids in the grade. At least 10 of the kids in that cohort tested positive in less than a week. At least half (probably more) were fully vaccinated. I am friends with 2 of the parents and those families are very cautious and the kids are masked all the time. The parents think the kids were exposed at lunch.
When they changed the criteria for quarantining, there was no way they could keep the schools staffed because even vaccinated teachers had to quarantine if they were in close contact.
That said, I think that PGCPS could have kept younger kids in school who seem to be less impacted by Covid(K-3rd) and are known to really struggle with online learning.
But I don't know what Dr Goldson was seeing. She is a very thoughtful person and wouldn't have done it unless she was being advised by experts to do so.
What we need is for the people in power to make the hard call and mandate vaccinations for all students. It wouldn't completely end infections but it would certainly slow things down. FDA also needs to get booster shots approved for the 12-15 year olds.

It doesn't mean a school system should close during a pandemic. Unless the schools are the ground zero for the outbreaks (which hasn't proven to be true) than there is no reason to do anything other than pay attention to your child and whether they are ill.
Yes, all schools everywhere will eventually have a case of Omicron. They are not microban castles.

At some point it is going to be hard for the school district to keep up with them all.
Anonymous wrote:Well Tasker and Kettering middle school supposedly have gone virtual through Jan 3rd. A ton of outbreaks esp in the middle schools this week.

Are we supposing that all these letters home just represent one case each? It seems unlikely that each day there has been one new case. Doesn't it seem more likely that there would be several cases each time?
