Most high flying jobs assume Someone Else has it covered - the wife, the nanny, a grandparent, etc.

Op, this is going to happen again and again. You two should have a game plan for next time which could be the day he gets back to school

I called my sons school and listed my husbands name and number first so he gets the call. He gets the calls now

All of you need to go here https://www.cvs.com/shop/abbott-binaxnow-covid-19-antigen-self-test-2-tests-for-serial-testing-prodid-550147 and buy some rapid covid tests. They will tell you if your kid is currently contagious, and then you can take him/her to get a PCR test.

OP, you are justified in feeling angry and frustrated. But stressful unexpected events do not always bring out the best in people.

When things calm down, you and your DH need a game plan because this will NOT be the last time something like this happens. Something like without further agreement, you are “on deck” for any M/W illness and he is responsible for Tu/Thur one and alternate Fridays. Or every other week or whatever. My work offers a backup childcare option - which isn’t an option for most reasons childcare falls through but it’s at least helpful in some situations.

You posted here why? You need back up child care. How is this a question just like you need it for holidays, summers and when your child is sick.

OP- it wasn't a duplication of effort- we were calling in different areas!

Also- he wasn’t searching for 2 hours - he had a meeting, he found that appointment later in his day.
