It especially does when they’re having a conflict with a tiny kid. Those moms always lower heir children’s age to make the bigger kid look like a monster.

Depends on parents' sizes, I would think. My DH is 6'6", healthy weight but large, and so far our toddler DD is tracking very large for her age. All his siblings and their children are also huge (think Marshall's giant Nordic Midwestern family on How I Met Your Mother). I am 5'7" and slim. DD was <7lbs at birth but she was early.

My nearly 10lb baby who was in the 99%+ for length and 99%+ head circumference stayed in the 99%+ until about age 6-7 and then stayed there for height, but went to average for weight, then just sort of slowed down. Done growing now and is 6 ft, 1 with size 12-13 feet. -- so tall but not unusually so (DH is 6 ft, I'm 5' 8"). But when he was a toddler he had the height/foot size/strength and vocabulary of a 4-5 year old but the emotional regulation/social skills of a 2 year old--made for some interesting playground experiences. But like I said, it evened out mid-elementary school.

Yes, my large babies are large young adults.

My mom was 10lbs at birth and she is now 5’4” and 115 lbs.

SIL’s kids were small babies (between 6 and 6.5 lbs) and are now extremely tall (one head taller than all classmates). She is 6’ and her husband is 6’5”.

Most likely your kids will be like you and DH. Of course there is a small possibility that they will be shorter or taller, but it’s a small possibility

No. Just like being a small baby/toddler doesn't guarantee that you'll be small forever, being a big baby/toddler doesn't mean that you'll be big/tall forever.

I was in the 40th percentile when born (I'm a twin), but shot up and was in the 90th percentile for height for most of my adolescence (and probably somewhere in the 50th percentile for weight until I was about 10). I was 5'1 in 4th grade and hated being so tall. I went through puberty at 12 and topped out at 5'3 and 100 pounds. I'm 35, have had three kids, and am still 5'3 and 100 pounds. If you'd seen me in second grade you wouldn't have guessed that I would be petite.

My oldest daughter was in the 50th percentile when born and has been in the 99th percentile for height and 65th percentile for weight since she was like 2 months old (my other two are twins and only 6 months, so who knows). I think that there's a good chance that her curve will be like mine and she'll be really tall through adolescence, but then go through puberty fairly early and top out somewhere around 5'5 for height. My husband is 6 feet and 170, so she'll probably be taller than me (fingers crossed) but I doubt that she'll stay in the 99th percentile for height.

Both my babies were bigger than yours, OP, and both are now (5YO and 7YO) right around 50th percentile in height and weight.

I have an uncle that was 13lbs at birth, and he also turned into a slightly tall (6 ft) but otherwise normal-size adult.

All that said, someone has to keep filling out the top quartile of the size charts, and statistically, it is far more likely to be kids that start out as big babies.

Same exact stats for me and DH. DS was over 10lbs and almost 23 inches at birth. He stayed at the top of the curve throughout and is now at 17 just a hair under 6'3". So for him, he stayed at the top end of the curve.

OP here - yes DS was 8lb12oz at 38 weeks and 22" long. So a big baby. I am just surprised that he keeps gaining weight instead of leveling off at this age. He is very active but eats a TON. Thankfully his height is going up as well otherwise he would be very rolley-polley.

No. Smaller baby is larger kid. Agree size of parents best predictor (weight and height wise).

Only the ones who have large/tall parents ending up being large. So if you are average height I would expect kid to level off within a few years after birth. I know plenty of huge babies born to smallish people and they ended up about where you would expect based on parent height. Some people just grow big babies.

That formula predicted my sons would both be 5'10", however they are both 6'2". However, both Grandfathers were 6'2"

OP there is a formula you can use at 18 months which is pretty accurate predictive. I used when my kids were 18 months now 20. Accurate.

My kids are still young (8, 6 and 2.5).

My first DD was super tall (95-99%) until she was 2 or 3, then she started going down in % and is now 65/70%. I have a feeling she will be talk because she looks just like DH who is 6’2”. She seems you get than she is and I have. a feeling she will develop later (like DH).

DD2 was much heavier than DD1, but slightly shorter. At 6 she is about 75% in height and 69% weight. She looks more like me (5’4”) so she might develop earlier and end up shorter than DD1 in the end.

DS1 is still young, but tall (90% in height and 70% weight). He also takes after DH I think and will be tall.

My DS was 99th percentile as an infant and 90%+ through the toddler years but gradually growth slowed and was 50th%ile by the time he started school. Tracked right on 50th for most of childhood and then hit a growth spurt in HS and is now at 18 about 6'1", about 90th%ile. He's also super slim.

DD, age 16, was not as quite as big as a baby but was very tall all through childhood and expected to be a tall adult but hit puberty a bit early and ended up topping out at 5'6", same as me. That's above average (75th%ile) for a woman but not particularly tall, which really annoys her as she wanted to be 5'8". Her build is more curvy/muscular.
