Wren is a girls name.

Ren will make people think of Footloose, Stimpy, or Kylo, depending on age.

We are considering the name Warren. I feel like that has a similar classical feel and could also be nn Ren.

Wren is fairly gender neutral to me. I knew a male Wren in college and never gave it a second thought until now. Not sure I like it as a nn for Lawrence though.

This is maybe the stupidest name-related idea I've seen on DCUM, and that's really saying something.

Matthew, James, John, Daniel, Benjamin, Samuel, Alexander, Ethan, Isaac, etc etc

There are so many great classic names out there, if you don’t want to do an alliterative name.

Everyone (mostly) likes Lawrence. Just drop the Wren idea. For someone who says she likes classic names, Wren is very weird.

I know a Lawrence nn Loren/Lori, probably not much better due to Lauren.

Wren definitely makes me think "girl," but Ren makes me think "boy." Silly, maybe. I don't know ... I don't hate this name, but I don't love it either.

Agree, "Ren" for a boy. That was the name of Kevin Bacon's character in Footloose.

I also know a Lawrence who is called Lance. He's a junior for his father who is called Larry.

But I also know a toddler Lawrence who is called by the full name

Lance is a truly terrible name. Super trashy, as in lives in a double wide and has a pitbull chained in the yard beside heaps of rusting auto parts on blocks. "Lance" is a hideous thing to do to an innocent child.

Lance's sisters are named Ainsley, Chardonnee, and Blaykelee.

Already have a thread, but I appreciate the enthusiasm!

Russell, nn Russ or Rusty?

If you are naming him Lawrence after a family member, then of course. But if you are naming your son Lawrence because it’s underused, then don’t. It’s underused for a reason - Larry is even worse. Ren is a better choice
Walter is in the same old fashioned style but is making a big come back.

People will think you mean Ren, like Kylo Ren, so it depends on how okay you are with that.
