That's 100% false. One can be happy and successful - and even have extremely fond memories of the school - while still recognizing that in retrospect, it was and has been very problematic in a number of ways.

Happy, successful TJ alumni don't have time to post on DCUM.

By every account, TJ was better 20 years ago.

But I don't know why a childless poster is assumed to be in her 40s. I assume that she's much younger and speaks from more recent experience.

It's pretty clear to me that there are a lot of different alumni on these pages. It's noteworthy that they all seem to agree.

+1 it's always parents speaking on behalf of their kids who disagree

Worst parenting decision I ever made was letting my kid go to TJ. Too many weekends studying.

Unfortunately the school board injected the toxicity into this school by pitting one "group" against another. It's sickening that some pro FCPS posters are attacking TJ students and parents to justify their support to an ill advised policy. Leave the kids out of this.

Please use this thread to post positives about TJ which has many. If you are critical of TJ kids, there are quite a few other threads that you can spread your hatred, rumors and innuendos.

One doesn’t have to have children, or children at TJ, to have a deep understanding of the environment at TJ.

Having been a child at TJ should be enough.

If you have never been a child at TJ, and instead have only heard about the version of TJ that your kids want to let you know about, kindly take a seat. You don’t know what you’re talking about, and you never will.

+100000000. There are many things about the TJ environment that are wonderful - especially if you are a part of the dominant ethnic group - but the version of it that kids present to their parents is highly sanitized and in most cases, the kids have no idea that what they are doing is problematic.

Maybe your kid does that.. Not mine. And several that we know.

I don't have kids. I was a TJ kid and I know for a fact that TJ kids do this on a regular basis. I am literally laughing out loud right now at "my kid doesn't do that". You have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not your kid presents a version of reality that pleases you rather than what is more truthful. Sit with that for a while. Your child wants to please you - this should not be surprising.

I swear - TJ parents are some of the most deluded people on earth, not only about their own children but about the world that they inhabit. Wake up.

So what's your business on a school forum? Are you the TJ whisperer who claims that kids "flock to you" to share their thoughts, feelings and opinions? Eww.. creepy.

I'm quite awake thank you. You need to leave school and grow up.

My business on a school forum is to correct some of the nonsense that goes on here.

For better or worse, people come to this forum for insights and opinions. I'm here to set the record straight because I know what I'm talking about. Parents deserve someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

Because you went to the school decades ago? Again, why are you so focused on a school with a bunch of minors when you are not a parent. Shady..

It tells me something about the people on this forum when they can't imagine someone caring about their alma mater. Again, explains a lot of what has gone on at TJ over the last decade or so.

Because your extreme arrogance and unbridled narcissism ensures that TJ will continue to receive an outsized amount of attention, to the detriment of the remaining 95-96% of students in the county.

Really? You start off by abusing the entire TJ parents and alumni and expect what.. a bunch of flowers? Fool.

Maybe so.. for some kids. Mine was in a similar situation and did well in terms of friendships. Sure, it was not as great as it would have been had he gone to base HS but it's not like he was depressed about it.
