I care insofar as I weigh Consumer Reports notes about the brand, and I discount some brands based on my past experience (no more Subarus for me).

But other than that, brand isn't a factor.

Yep. I only buy Japanese cars, with a strong preference for Toyota/Lexus.

The difference is that German car companies enslaved Jews, & Japanese car companies enslaved POWs (American, Chinese). American car companies have good human rights record.

For me it is more about a handful of car brands I absolutely avoid:

--Stellantis (formery FCA, and before that, Chrysler): A track record of absolute crap quality control and poor reliability.

--BMW: they make some exceptionally fun to drive and comfortable vehicles and I get why people enjoy them and choose them; just for me I'm not a fan of the heavy depreciation and repair costs.

--Land Rover/Jaguar: Absolutely dead last in reliability charts for decades. These folks just don't seem to know how to design a vehicle that functions.

--Infiniti: Such poor sales volume that I would be worried the brand will exit the U.S. market in the near future.

--Buick: Call it irrational but I just don't want to buy THE brand known as a retiree car.

--MINI: known several owners whose minis were absolute repair nightmares. Why pay BMW upkeep costs when you're not getting that nice of a vehicle?

--Volkswagen: Notorious for electrical gremlins, infotainment and software issues. Parts, service and repair costs are high despite VW being a value brand. At least you could justify higher upkeep costs on an Audi, but if you're going to get a value car it doesn't make sense.

--Brand new Volvo: Volvos are safe, good looking and comfortable. A lot to like. But my goodness the brand new ones depreciate like a rock. If I was getting a Volvo I would consider buying a CPO a few years old.

--Honda: what's shocking is that Honda used to be THE choice for value and long-term reliability. The brand's image still retains that, but most people aren't aware of how Honda has dropped in reliability rankings in recent years. Look at the 2021 charts: Honda is in the bottom 1/3 of vehicle dependability, ranking worse than Audi, Mercedes, Ford, BMW, Nissan... Google "Honda reliability decline" for more on that.

--Nissan: Entire company is a mess and so are their cars. Plagued by CVT issues. Don't last. The now-former CEO was on an international law enforcement chase and smuggled himself out of a country in a crate.

--Tesla: Incredible innovation and they have singlehandedly pushed the entire industry forward, but right now I don't like their lax quality control standards. Don't feel like paying top dollar for a Tesla that could have misaligned panels or an entire glass roof that flies off the car on the highway (yes this happened to a brand new Model Y). I'll consider them once quality becomes a higher priority.

--Chevrolet (certain models): their pick-up trucks and heavy-duty SUVs like the Tahoe are very well-made but their other vehicles like the Equinox are uncomfortable ultra-cheap crap that are made for rental car fleets and will not last.

We're pretty much on the old Japanese car bandwagon - no particular brand. It's been 15 years since we bought a car with less than 100k miles on it - been very happy with Toyotas, Subarus and Hondas. Would consider a Hyundai or Kia if the right opportunity came along.

I'm generally biased against German and American branded cars based on past experience and the fact that they don't really make the kind of cars I'm buying. We like minivans and efficient sedans/hatchbacks, which are dominated by Asian brands.

All that said, I think my Prius is the only car I've owned that was NOT made in the US or Canada. That includes both VWs, 3 Hondas, 3 Toyotas and 2 Subarus.

My wife and I are late 50's and are going on our 7th car since college. 3 of of 7 were American cars and BY FAR they were the worst for reliability and repairs... so we now stick with Toyota/Honda and other non US made brands

I have had many bad experiences w/certain car brands in the past which affect what I decide to purchase today.

I have always had great experiences with Honda’s so that is my brand of preference at the moment.
Honda’s have proven (at least to me!) to be very reliable vehicles and mechanics usually like working on them.

I had a Mercury (subsidiary of Ford) that became a huge money pit as well as a headache after it hit the 100,000 mile mark so I likely will never purchase a Ford again.

I had a Kia that was a piece of junk - but a Hyundai that was decent so would purchase Hyundai over Kia.

I am pretty open to different brands but there are certain brands j won't buy, such as Hyundai or Subaru. Call it irrational personal bias. I acknowledge these car brands make excellent cars.
