You need to get a life. Fantasizing others suffer is just evil.
Going to Gaithersburg HS is "suffering"?
Sounds like we need more people with money to have a stake in the game.
Forcing students to be bused miles away from a high-performing, stable school to a lower-performing school is no harm? Longer commutes, disruption to their coursework and supporting peers are real impact on our children.
It will be good for them to get out of their country club bubble wrapped existence.
I don’t think you have ever actually been to a Wootton neighborhood. Because I have lived in one for 10 years and don’t know a single family who is privileged the way you think they are. And I certainly don’t know anyone in my neighborhood who belongs to a country club. I really think you must have us confused with Whitman or private schools.
If your response to attending a HS 3 miles away is "Fantasizing others suffer is just evil".... you need to get out more. Your kids will benefit. Exploring their world more than 2 miles beyond their home might give them an awesome college essay topic.
And Lakewood Country Club is right by Wootton.
People pay hundreds of thousands and live in much smaller houses than they would otherwise to be close to schools. This is reality you can go into Zillow or redfin. Take Urbana for example. Houses around Urbana HS are much smaller and cost much more than ones even a mile or two away.
We happen to be shopping for house now. This is the reality. House half a mile from the schools costs the same as one two miles from the schools but is older, half as big, smaller lot, etc.

Are you talking about closing Wootton or just rezoning some to crown? They’re completely different issues
Replacing the Wootton building with the Crown building, and rezoning some to Gaithersburg and RM.
Wow at first it’s Wootton is just moved there
Then it’s we’re just adding crown
Then it became we are adding fields road
Then we need to rezone Dufief and cold spring
Now it’s rezone some to Gaithersburg and RM
We knew it. It’s not just moving Wootton to crown. It’s closing Wootton and spread Wootton assets around.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I don't care whether Wootton goes to Crown or stays at current location but I do care about the fact nearby Travilah and Dufief kids are getting bussed to Wootton and Fields Rd and Brown Station are getting bussed to QO.
I hope that changes and to the people with the lawsuits, I hope MCPS sticks it to you and moves these 2 schools to QO and moves out Fields Rd and Brown Station from QO.
QO needs some diversity - currently we have majority white and Hispanic kids at QO because of all this bussing. QO used to be a great school and now it is a 5/10. Some of this Asian population will improve QO's ratings.
I'm not sure why you think Brown Station and Fields Road students are "bussed" to QO, the way you're describing it.
Which high school do you think they should have been originally assigned to?
All three schools are in Gaithersburg.
Brown Station Elementary is right up the street off of Quince Orchard Blvd, 3 miles away.
Fields Road is 3.4 miles aways driving. Drawing a direct line, as the crow flies distance of 2.12 miles.
A problem and issue is that Gaithersburg has three high schools in close proximity all around that Muddy Branch/Clopper Road area.
Look at the distance for Brown Station:
QO 3 miles
Gaithersburg HS 2.6 miles
Northwest 4.7 miles
Fields Road:
QO: 3.4 miles
Gaithersburg: 2.5 miles
Northwest: 5 miles
And they're all in contiguous zones with QO.
To me, bussing is when there's a random island somewhere and the residents in that island ride the bus past several other schools to attend another school.
I don't think the less than a mile difference for the two schools (.4 for Brown Station and .9 for Fields Road) really constitutes bussing as you call it.
Anonymous wrote:I'm not saying Fields Road ES shouldn't go to Crown.
But look at the map overview for Shady Grove Middle School.
Taunton Drive is literally adjacent to the parking lot to Shady Grove Middle school. But students that live on that street and connecting neighborhood gets bussed 2 miles away to Gaithersburg Middle School.
It's even a worse case than Fields Road ES, which has a highway and about a mile separating the Fields Road community from Crown High school.
So wouldn't be the first time MCPS buses students past a school within sight of another school from their neighborhood.
Anonymous wrote:Crown will outperform Gaithersburg, however that is not going to help property values. As has been pointed out, Homes zoned for "W" schools get a premium, but once outside those top schools, the price differentials are small. For example, people don't pay extra for Quince Orchard over Gaithersburg. And they are not going to pay extra for Crown. I think you are giving the trolls too much credit as if they have a plan here. Their plan is to tear down the success of others. in fact some of them may not be attached to either Wootton or Crown in any way. They are just trolling

They'd be bused to Crown anyway.
What about the kids that currently go to Gaithersburg?
Wootton and Gaithersburg are not that close. Current kids going to Gaithersburg is closer and by choice
"By choice."? What do you mean by that? You don't get to pick your school.
Wootton and Gaithersburg HS are only 4 miles from each other.
Seems you don’t know where both schools located. It’s 6.6 miles by Google map
Check again. Go by actual distance, not directions.
