Two opposite things can be true at the same time. Of course most people feel bad for their terror, death, loss. And SMDH at the foolhardy, arrogant, wasteful indulgence.
It's like seeing some idiot in a million dollar car driving like a jerk and then having a fender bender. Wasteful indulgence confirms owner stupidity.
And what is it they say? Every billionaire is a libertarian until they need a billion dollar search and rescue effort.

I am one of those people who does not think it’s moral to be a billionaire, but that doesn’t mean I want them to die or suffer. I just want them to be like Dolly Parton and do good things with their money. And I don’t think that being really sad about it makes somebody a better person than the ones making Orca jokes. We really don’t need to feel bad for these guys (excepting the teenager).
They could be “do[ing] good things with their money” AND also decided to spend 250k to take this trip. It’s not an either/ or.
I wasn’t critiquing how people use their money, I was explaining how i feel about billionaires based on PP’s comment about how liberals think billionaires are bad. The fact that I think it’s immoral to be a billionaire (which some liberals believe) doesn’t mean I want them to suffer. It just means that I’m not going to feel really bad about it when they suffer because they have done something really stupid for no good reason. Like if warren buffet died in a fire in his mansion I’d feel bad for him and think jokes about fires were tasteless. Same if your average family died the same way but I’d feel like those joke were morally reprehensible . And I think most people have degrees of sympathy just like me.
This isn't an accurate comparison. House fires are tragic regardless of how much money you have. However, if a billionaire's house caught on fire because he paid Elon Musk to launch a rocket of the backyard, then I'm not as sympathetic.

systemic and root cause problems are by their very nature different from rescue situations. sort of how by law emergency rooms have to take you even if you can't pay - but primary care docs don't. not saying we shouldn't, as a society, prioritize root cause, systemic issues much more than we do - but i don't think you can really compare the two. and it's not like the government was staring at one giant pile of money, while one bean counter decided if they'd give it to the coast guard for this or hand it out to homeless people.

DP but I don't think a billionaire dying in a house fire is any more or less tragic than a "regular" person dying in a house fire.

Okay, multiple people dying in a fire is sadder than one person dying in a fire, but by that same token, a family of billionaires dying is sadder than one non-billionaire dying. My point is, if you aren't doing something foolhardy of which you knowingly assumed the risk of death, what does it matter how rich you are?
I wasn’t talking about wealth, I was talking about whether or not kids are involved. Maybe I should have said “typical” family instead of average.
But of course we do also feel differently about the death of somebody depending on how they lived their life and how that impacted us. Nobody is sad when the villain dies at the end of a movie. And for a real-life example, compare the reaction of the Irish with the English when queen elizabeth died. I think a billionaire is more likely to have participated in villainous, oppressive behavior than somebody who makes an average salary. I used Warren Buffet as an example because I like him.

It is not a coincidence that the debris field was found shortly after the ROVs reached the area and started searching.

Not really, they only recently launched the ROVs that would be capable of finding something on the seabed

I think it’s only the right thing to do up until there is no way there could be any survivors, particularly given that it may imploded and there aren’t remains to return to the family.

There’s a video floating around from the launch that there was a small leak at the valve. If that is so, that could explain the implosion. The video is from one of the crew members on the boat that stays at sea during excursion. There’s also a pod of pilot whales nearby during the departure.
