The boy had traumatic injuries, according to the autopsy.
That's the opposite of what I've read.
The Orange County medical examiner released his cause of death : drowning and traumatic injuries. I'd trust the medical examiner over something that you heard.

Thanks for sharing. I live close to this resort and guests are on the beach and in the water daily. Disney has never told anyone to move. It's so horrific.
Not only have they not told anyone to move, they've actively encouraged the beach use with the activities and sand pails and buckets. People saying otherwise on here don't seem to understand that this wasn't some random lake in Florida.
Exactly. They have parties on the beaches. Parties!

That's the thing. It is a resort beach. Nobody expects an alligator to grab anyone.
One of those posts really clued me in. I think her name is 4BoysMom. The one who posted about Adam Walsh and Baby Jessica. YES.. horrible things happen. They are predictable after the fact.
How many people, small children included, have played on that very beach and how many others at Disney World without there ever being an issue?? For how many years?
This was not predictable.

You have no idea what you are talking about. They built the lagoon 50 years ago, when alligators were all but extinct, You never saw them in Florida. They built the Grand Floridian about 30 years ago -- again, Gators were coming back, bot not nearly like they are now.
That lagoon was never really meant for swimming, although people did do watercrafts on it. One look into it tells you that.
Bay Lake is the natural lake that once had River Country, where people did swim. And yes, there are gators!
Disney can't just kill them -- they are a protected species.

The beaches are closed, they aren't allowing people on them.

An accident out of everyone's control would be a plane crashing into the hotel or hotel room. It sounds like the father was right there with the boy if the father got scratched by the gator. They had been seeing others in that water, they weren't out swimming in it. They were having carefree fun and then this unthinkable tragedy happened. If they had thought for a second that something like that could happen to their precious little boy they would never have gotten near that water.
Now the rest of us can learn from it. That's all we can do with this heartbreaking lesson.
From what I understand from alligator experts, if the father/another adult was right there with the child, the alligator probably wouldn't have attacked. The gator would have been scared off by the size of the adult. I think the boy was alone, but the parents were nearby and able to quickly go after the gator once they realized what was happening. The boy was the size of small prey and probably made splashes like small prey.
This. I have read nothing about how close the father was, but I doubt he was right next to his child. Alligators aren't fast animals. If the dad was in the vicinity, but right to him, he still could have wrestled with the gator. If the dad was right next to the child, I don't think the gator would have attacked. Also, reports have varied as to how deep the child was, ranging from 2-3 inches to 1 foot. If the child was only 2-3 inches in the water, the gator would have had to have been above the surface and visible before the attack. I feel horrible for these poor parents, but there are enough elements to this story that lead me to believe they could have prevented this had they been reasonable careful.
