It's all very frustrating to watch for soccer. If the teams are ranked, I really don't see why there is such a need for all of these separate leagues around the DMV. Are they trying to weed out smaller clubs? That's what it seems like.

NCSL is becoming basically Latino clubs, small clubs, and lower teams of big clubs. In the case of the Latino clubs, I think it is something that really should be a concern to US Soccer. This structure is basically locking the Latino clubs out from even playing the top suburban clubs outside of expensive tournaments. There are some kids on these teams that are better than some big club A team players, better than some DA players.

This whole structure penalizes affordable soccer. If you are not willing to pay the big fees, 3 spiffy uniform kits, hotels & travel for away tournaments etc then you are not going to be allowed to play with the big boys.

I assume it boils down to being direct competition(CCL vs NCSL) and these leagues trying to make more $$. Not sure what the incentive is outside of the club vs club aspect. I assume there has to be something for these clubs to make the move no?

I guess that the idea is that maybe by being in a league where the biggest clubs' top teams compete (excluding DA/ECNL) will attract more and better talent.

Herndon got accepted into CCL? That’s laughable. They’re long ball merchants at their best.

So many people just have no clue of what it is like to have to balance all the egos or the work that goes into planning a successful progressive session.

But that is the issue isn't it? People "check out" when the team doesn't do well.
Whatever happened to working harder and resolving the issues? Not anymore I guess? Take the easy way out, quit and move on.
There are some circumstances where I guess it makes sense.

even though you caveat it at end, this isnt fair to be more biased against the parents/players. All of the coaches deserve the situation they find themselves in. Get rid of the politics, favoritism, position “holding” and other stuff they do. Why does my kid or I need to stay around to talk the crap thats being served?
I think it’s telling in many situations when you see the exodus where the issue stems from.

In the coaches’ defense, it’s not always in their control. Most can’t even pick their own teams. Even if they give their recommendations, the TDS will override and often slash a kid for a political fave, club donors, etc. Married to a travel coach.

You and your spouse have our collective apologies for parental sins past, present and future. It is a lot more stressful than most of the jobs that travel parents hold. You are brave to read these boards.

Sounds like coach's job, doesn't it?

Yes to a point but it's a quality the parent should instill in the child. But if parents are enabling the "moving on" behavior, the coach can't do much.
It is also tough to resolve a problem if everyone has jumped ship.

It’s on the coach to sell his philosophy to his players.

Are we talking about pros or children?
So a coach's "philosophy" will trump parental guidance?

I’m talking about your children will not put forth their best effort and will most likely just end up going through the motions if they are not buying what the coach is selling, regardless of your parental guidance. As a parent, you can take your child wherever you please.

I think what is lost in all of this is that soccer is a recreational activity that kids and parents choose to do. There isn't much that really needs to be worked out. If a kid isn't getting playing time a Club A, and a conversation or two may have happened and things one way or another didn't improve then move on.

Yes, yes, life lessons, stick it out, suck it up and all that. If the same thing happens after multiple clubs then the lesson isn't learned but sometimes a kid just wants to play, have a role or just fit in. And to make ones recreational spare time drudgery just to play then that is a lousy life lesson. The first obligation of your child playing a sport is them being happy and having fun. Not every team or every level of competition can afford that or accommodate that for every kid. It is then up to the family to find a place that meets the proper balance.
