Yeah, I wouldn't read into it that way (they are desperate for players). When a club holds supplemental tryouts, it is a good way to gain talent outside of the club and get kids to transfer after the trouts have occurred. Our club held them and gained kids from some competing clubs also, even though our rosters were seemingly set...we just made room for 2 more players.
In other words the talent on the team is not good (but not your kid of course) and they want to upgrade.
