Must be some good explanation for the laid an egg of the year award for Yorktown. That’s a drubbing…
I don’t think it’s as much a case of Yorktown laying an egg as it is Dominion is just a good team. No one should be surprised by this result. Riverside is down this season, but they and Dominion have consistently beaten Class 6 schools in the past. This will probably be Dominion’s last hurah, but they have a great chance to win four state championships in a row. Sadly lacrosse participation is falling off for these smaller schools to the point they can no longer field JV teams and if they can they sometimes play 7v7. Varsity teams are filled with students who want to play a sport but have little to no lacrosse experience. Riverside has played almost their entire season without their goalie and has had JV players fill in or defenders turn goalie over night. Hopefully participation climbs for these Class 4/5 schools and more players get involved with club lacrosse. Don’t sleep on Dominion this year. They are a good team, execute well, and have some talented college-bound players.

It seems like the school really has to work to be so consistently bad. Wouldn’t any school at least occasionally, by chance, have a decent team? If Wakefield isn’t willing to even be competitive, I’m not sure having a team is good for the girls.
Look. Wakefield never has a competitive team because girls lacrosse is an elitist north arlington sport. Starting with the arlington rec program, the sport is exclusively a north arlington game. All recruitment, all practices are in n arlington and only when the league needs game fields do they step foot
In south arlington. The county reinforces this by ignoring the middle schools
In south arlington by not providing goals for practice- all the fields in n arlington have goals on field- but ya can’t find one save two on the Wakefield
Campus albeit with holes in the net.
The lack of equity of play in the game is significant- by the time girls get to high school it is too late to start and be competitive with fx and n arlington students who have been playing for a decade both at rec and in club play.

What a joke SR and PVI would crush them
