Scott Turner: "In 2018, Powell brought down interest rates during the Biden administration, and now he won't even bring it down when the economy is thriving. I don't understand it."

1. Biden wasn’t president during 2018
2. They don’t bring interest rates down when inflation is high and economic activity is elevated.

Other than that, spot on

The Federal Reserve kept rates low from 2008 and throughout Obama's tenure. As soon as Trump won, they magically rose interest rates from 2016-18. The timing was beyond ridiculous and not supported by economic analysis. I don't support politicizing the Fed, but we've had that for a while already.

The Fed pouring money into the markets to maintain artificially low interest rates for a decade is what inflated assets, including real estate and stocks.

The inflation of assets is what caused the extreme widening of the income distribution and is why the 0.1% is so, so wealthy.

The uber-wealthy protecting their wealth -- and the working class feeling left behind -- is why we have Trump as President, again.

Trump supports owe their success to the Fed's malpractice.

The Fed raised interest rates - VERY slightly - during the first Trump administration because the economy was recovering and to combat inflation. Every economic analysis supports that, and some analysts would say that they should have been raised more. The rates went down to zero due to the global economic cataclysm in 2008. TEN YEARS LATER during what Trump always said was his booming economy it was no longer appropriate to have interest rates bumping along the bottom.

Trump 2025.

The union at STELLANTIS was very greedy in negotiations. People are not buying their vehicles at the ridiculous price points to support the labor costs. The lots are full and have been for years.

Car makers cannot afford the labor cost. They get everything they deserve.

We know you cut and paste looking for bad economic news. Try to get the names correct.

I buy a candy bar at the checkout maybe twice a year, but since they're at the checkout I'll sometimes glance at the prices. Stunned yesterday to notice that a plain regular size hershey bar is just under $3.

I bought groceries yesterday (the day of the week I get the 5% senior discount) and noticed milk up again, it's 20% higher than it was while Biden was still president. Wondered when MAGA is going to complain about food prices. A bunch of kale is 2/3 the size it used to be, and now they sell broccoli as "crowns" instead of bunches. I've bought carrots in 5 lb bags for years. Price had never changed as long as I can remember, but those are 10% higher (and 30% higher for one pound). I'm baking my own bread these days.

The timing was, Obama had repaired the disaster economy left by W. This isn't hard.
Trump left a disaster and Biden fixed it.
Trump is crashing it again.

There's a reason they call Powell "late". That doesn't make him political. It makes him fallible, unlike Greenspan. Many people are happy to see fallibility rather than godhood.

The stock market is a barometer of corporate profits. When a company slashes jobs, it improves the bottom line and the stock goes up. Only in Trump's mind and the mind of 1% MAGAs is the stock market reflective of "the economy"
