They cut off beef imports a couple days ago. Seems Xi is escalating even after Trump is trying to make concessions to stop the bleeding.
China probably has a long list and is just going to turn the screws more every few days.
Unlike trump’s own voters, China was listening to Trump’s tariff talk and had a plan for this scenario.
China has been trying to increase their domestic consumption for a while, and although this is not the way he wanted to do it, Xi can tell his subjects that their patriotic duty is to consume more, inject a stimulus package, and they will follow along. China had already announced a couple of months ago that they would give childcare credits and debt relief for local governments to increase domestic consumption. They will probably announce more easing of rates and other steps to bolster consumption soon.
I am dreading the crescendo of this trade war, especially since we have no idea when it might come. Can we, as citizens, sue Trump in a class action for economic disruption and mental anguish?

He changes his mind day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. I’m not even sure what a trade deal even means to somebody like Trump, who has never respected contracts or the law. The only question is how he tries to back down this time while projecting a win because China isn’t going to pick up the phone or sit down with him.

Recession Risk Has Leapt Under Trump, Economists Say
Since President Trump took office, economists have slashed estimates for growth while raising them for inflation and unemployment. The main reason is tariffs, according to respondents in our quarterly survey of economists.
--The probability of a recession in the next 12 months stands at around 45%, according to economists questioned between April 4 and April 8. That's up from 22% in January.
--Economists expect US gross domestic product after inflation to expand just 0.8% in the fourth quarter from a year earlier. That is down from a forecast of 2% in January.
