It may be trolling but I do agree that it's probably a good idea not to assume they won't cram 1,000 BVA attorneys into every crevice of office space if told to RTO.

What’s wrong with cramming 1,000 attorneys into every crevice of office space? I remember the good ole days when BVA crammed dozens of attorneys into call center like cubes on the second floor. Initially, most of the attorneys on the second floor hated the workplace. However, they eventually grew to love the camaraderie. Several romances also blossomed among the attorneys.

The BVA has given up two floors our of four floors total. There is not enough space for all of the attorneys in the area that is left. They are probably not going to execute a new lease either. Rumor is they are leaving 425 Eye when the lease runs out in 2026.

Elon and Vivek will like a word.

True, but there are only a couple of trolls (maybe only one who is sock puppeting - they love hyperbole and have very little information about anything current; my money is they were involved with the union, since they used to post a link to some aged survey that proved nothing and was a really poorly written report).

So, in the parlance of the day, those posts are fake news. Sad.

I’ve moved on from my time at BVA, but I worked with smart, hard-working people who cared about the mission and learning how to do the job well and many are still there. With 1000 attorneys, no one label is accurate.

The aged survey that you're referring to revealed that the vast majority of the attorneys who responded to the survey viewed the work environment at the Board to be toxic. The union's most recent survey from September 2024 indicates that there is still widespread dissatisfaction among the the BVA workforce. See for yourself below.

Sorry, grandpa, they got rid of the boiler room years ago. BTW, romances blossom in any workplace with young people, it was not unique to BVA.

All federal employees are to return to the office or be dismissed.

If only there were offices for 1000+ staffers to return to at the BVA...

I'm surprised a BVA attorney would use this argument when the vast majority of you came from doc review where you worked in window less boiler rooms, basement broom closets, and rooms so forgotten that biglaw summer interns would get a tour and gape at you all like exotic animals in a zoo.

What do Big Law office accommodations have to do with space availability at BVA?

Do we really need 1000+ GS13/14 attorneys to adjudicate disability cases? Why not create an AI program to adjudicate straightforward service connection cases? AI can scan medical records and draft a decision. For the complex cases, we can retain a cadre of 250 or so attorneys to do the heavy lifting. I’m going tweet my recommendation to Elon and Vivek and the DOGE leaders in Congress and perhaps the Heritage Foundation. I believe my recommendation will save taxpayers millions of dollars.

As long as the law allows unlimited appeals the answer is: yes, we do need those attorneys. Maybe when you become president you can get the law changed to limit the number of Court appeals per case

I feel sorry for them.

ROFL. Unfortunately, a lot of BVA attorneys have forgotten their humble origins. When I worked at BVA, many of my colleagues proudly framed their Cooley Law degrees for all to see and bragged about their legal experiences. Little did they know that VA claims examiners with GEDs and high school diplomas perform similar work as them.
