It's a TV drama. All TV dramas have more "stuff" going on than we have in our real life. If they didn't, they'd be boring as f***. Give me an example of a TV drama that didn't have over the top stuff happen pretty regularly.

There's a lot of good in this show, some strong character development, and some meaningful issues.

I don’t watch it anymore. I can comment on whatever I like, so stfu.

Isn't Rebecca's deathbed scene not that far into the future? Kevin's twins are still kids, so Jack would still be a kid too, since he's only a year older.

Good point. Hailey and the twins share a birthday so that would not be possible.

Why was Kate the only member of the family with a weight issue? It got much worse after her father died but why was she an overweight child and teen? Does she have an anxiety disorder as also evidenced by her fear of swimming? They all treat her with kid gloves—why? Because she is the only girl?

I'm the poster who wrote how unrealistic it was for Kate to be chosen by Hailey's birth mother. I'm fine with the rest of her story. I agree with the posters who are critical of Kate for making Toby make all the sacrifices while doing so little herself to save the marriage. I think that actually goes very well with a storyline that she has never been able to control her weight.

IOW, I, for one, am fine with the narrative of her remaining obese, but there are ways it has been very well done and ways it hasn't within her character arc.

It is possible that Kate was with Jack and his wife for the birth and then left (with Edie?) to be with Rebecca at the end.
