Alignment of Post-Season Play & Standalone Competitions |

It is generally seen that for regular seasons serving as qualifiers for post-season competitions, those seasons should be on the same registration choice as the end-state competition (e.g., national championships); for standalone competitions not part of league play (e.g., showcases), organization members will be responsible for working with the competition organizers on clearly communicating the approved registration choice.

ECNL will be allowed to make showcases based off whatever age groups they want separate from the 8/1 format. I’ve heard ECNL is wanting grad year for showcases Junior/seniors.

All Aug-Dec players who started school early and are young for their grade will be eligible to play 8/1-7/31 league play and nationals however ECNL will not allow them to play in the younger school grade for showcases.
Will be based on grade in school or GY.

So they can be recruited with their graduating class because either they are good enough or they or not.

My friend is a consultant/lawyer that is helping US soccer and he told me what ECNL plans on doing. Based on the plans submitted. This will all be public knowledge at some point late this year or early next year.

Leagues already allow GY for HS Seniors. There have been no additional discussions about allowing GY for any other age groups.

ECNL will implement a rule that says under SY (School Year) they wont allow Aug birthdays to play down with a lower grade group even it its "technically" possible.

Why would anyone care about showcases being GY? The purpose is for recruiting and not results. It’s not going to impact team formation at all so if it happens, doesn’t happen, it doesn’t matter.

Tell that to the parents of all the players that are the correct age.

Im sure they'll love giving minutes to an older player that cant get recruited on a team with players their grade.

MLSN already allows older kids to take spots with biobanding and yet families and boys fight to stay on MLSN teams.

The sooner you realize the leagues don’t care about your kid or anyone else’s the better off you will be.

They want college coaches coming because as long as college coaches show up they have a product.

If a kid is getting replaced by a hold back then they probably are not that good anyways.

I would be upset as well if it happened to my kid but if happens to other peoples kid I can care less and that’s the model of ECNL, GA, MLSN. Priorities of recruiting and my kid over your kid.

What? GY are all players from the same class competing for the same spots in college and all are on the same recruiting schedule.

To be clear, I don’t think any league is going GY but it would not be surprising for showcases to be GY.

And there it is. Magically we've gone back to considering grade a part of the equation again.

Nobody wants the regrade/holdbacks playing down on their team.

Grade is a part of the equation when you are talking about an event with the sole purpose of college recruitment. Grade has nothing to do with a regular league schedule.

In this area with 9/1 school age starts and most areas, August kids playing on grade were holdbacks. The rule will let them play with their grade. Players and parents don't have a say on wanting or not wanting certain teammates.

Then they just play with their grade.

And yes people will get pissed if players from an older team steal their kids minutes at showcases. And when this happens GA will implement a rule not allowing playing down or they'll be BY and it wont matter. Either way people will be looking for exits.

Clubs assign players to teams, no reason to be jealous of the players. Nobody cheating. Age range will be Aug 1 - July 31, grades of kids not a condition in 2017, not a condition now, not a condition in 2026.

Plus vigilante found a new toy and is going ape sheet again.

We have a Q4 biobanding player starting in our team. If he plays in his own age group, he will either be benched or unable to make the team. He is most likely leaving for ECNL next year and has no issue occupying an NL spot, which I think is good for him to play in his own age group.

Where is this coming from? Please offer proof because ECNL said that they were not going to go rogue on the age cutoffs, they were going to match other leagues. Your statement doesn't match reality.

It's coming from Trish the Commish's burner account. No way there is going to be a rule that says "if you fall within this age range you can't play in a certain grade." Aug kids will play with Aug. 1 - July 31 kids. If they're good, they can play with the older age group. THE GRADE THEY ARE IN DOESNT MATTER. Does it hurt them if they are in the "lower" grade? Probably, but that's not always going to be the case. Is it ideal for those "young" August kids who will be misaligned? No, it's not. But there are solutions to that problem. Some more extreme than others. The + system won't work because you're extending the cutoff outside the 1 year mark. If soccer was interested in having anything other than a 1 year range, they would have done it. Much like the other leagues people have mentioned that already have (basketball, lacrosse, etc.).

Inconsistent treatment of August kids compared to say July kids or September kids would be bizarre. No signs that youth soccer isn't sticking to straight 365 day.
