WJ becomes 30%, Woodward 50% and Whitman 20% FARMS?
MCPS needs to calculate bus time and see if it's practical. As long as bus rude is not longer than 20-25 minutes, it will work. Longer than than is impractical.
To pp above though, no it doesn't. These are theoretical numbers that assume current students stay in the system. Under option 3. They wont.

What is current FARMS in WJ?
19.8 according to their charts. WJ is a wonderful, diverse school with many high performing students. That’s why it’s so overcrowded, unfortunately

It's overcrowded because the geographical area assigned to it is too large and populated.
Yah people buy into WJ because its the cheapest W and the housing is dense coupled to a bunch of apts. Whitman and Churchill have very few Apts so it is easier to project attendance.
That is not true. I chose my neighborhood because I loved the proximity to Rock Creek, and I didn't want my kids to go to Whitman or Churchill. Those schools are a little bit too much for my tastes. I love the WJ Community.

Overwhelmingly, WJ parents voted to reopen Woodward. WJ parents and students went to County Council meetings all decked out in Green to show support for funding for Woodward. We’ve filled out I don’t know how many surveys about Woodward.
Now it looks like MCPS may renege on that and send WJ families from Farmland, Garrett Park and KP to other parts of the county. That’s half of WJ.
No good deed shall go unpunished. Bait and switch.
Wow, this is just...wow. The entitlement in this post is staggering. WJ families are not entitled to anything more than other MCPS families. Wow.
I would agree with you, but I know how effective WJ cluster is - The WJ PTA cluster operates with corporate discipline. It's impressive. Westside parents are tired of having their magnet students on the bus to Blair every day. So this academic program analysis is very focused on travel time for students, to dovetail with this westside community point of view.
They are welcome to advocate but pretending they are specifically deserving of short bus rides over other families is disgusting
These WJ families would have the longest bus rides. I think you are missing the point here.
DP. I am certainly missing what the PP meant by "MCPS may renege on that." What exactly did they think they had been promised, and by whom? I can see why they would have preferred their outcomes be limited to either staying at WJ or being rezoned to Woodward, but clearly those were not the only possibilities here.
Having said that, I don't think the dreaded Option 3 will come to pass when all of this shakes out.
Nothing promised but certainly implied by those early surveys and discussions.
Otherwise the WJ families surely would have voted to stay and expand the current building.
Is this a vote within the PTA? These aren't choices that should be given to a subset of MCPS families to make on their own. As you can see, the construction of Woodward impacts all down county families as well as all MoCo taxpayers.

You are overestimating how much the rest of the country cares about your property values.
You are underestimating how much the right wing press likes to bash DEI and crazy progressives.
It doesn't make for the types of headlines they like. What will it say? "White kids potentially forced to endure 40 minute instead of 30 minute bus rides to lower income schools with Black and Hispanic kids"?
“Out of control progressives force kids to be bused from neighborhood schools to lower performing schools across town in the name of DEI”
“Race to the bottom: In the name of DEI, progressives want your kids to have lower test scores”
I don't think most Newsmax viewers are zoned for schools with high test scores.

Are you personally impacted by option 3?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Actually it really was an expand WJ or reopen Woodward choice. Not expand WJ, reopen Woodward, or get split up and sent to Kennedy, Einstein and Wheaton.
Einstein and Blair have no capacity.
