30% FARMS means FARMS rate goes up by 50% in WJ.

20% was pretty good.

That is not true. I chose my neighborhood because I loved the proximity to Rock Creek, and I didn't want my kids to go to Whitman or Churchill. Those schools are a little bit too much for my tastes. I love the WJ Community.

Same. We also love WJ for our kid. The big huge diverse school has actually been ideal for DC. If I had to go back in time I think I would vote for expand WJ over build Woodward so that WJ can continue as is just with the appropriate infrastucture.

Before the DCC people jump all over me for wanting to exclude, I am observing that there are benefits to a large school in terms of electives, clubs etc. Big doesn’t work for all kids but we like it.

There is nothing inherrently wrong with people loving their kid’s school and wanting it to continue. Isn’t that ideały what we would all feel? Loving your kid’s school because your kid is thriving there and it is convenient for family logistics?

And advocating for necessary resources to achieve that everywhere?

I don’t think option 3 is a panacea but it sure is disruptive in terms of commute times.

I would agree with you, but I know how effective WJ cluster is - The WJ PTA cluster operates with corporate discipline. It's impressive. Westside parents are tired of having their magnet students on the bus to Blair every day. So this academic program analysis is very focused on travel time for students, to dovetail with this westside community point of view.

They are welcome to advocate but pretending they are specifically deserving of short bus rides over other families is disgusting

DP. I am certainly missing what the PP meant by "MCPS may renege on that." What exactly did they think they had been promised, and by whom? I can see why they would have preferred their outcomes be limited to either staying at WJ or being rezoned to Woodward, but clearly those were not the only possibilities here.

Having said that, I don't think the dreaded Option 3 will come to pass when all of this shakes out.

Nothing promised but certainly implied by those early surveys and discussions.

Otherwise the WJ families surely would have voted to stay and expand the current building.

Is this a vote within the PTA? These aren't choices that should be given to a subset of MCPS families to make on their own. As you can see, the construction of Woodward impacts all down county families as well as all MoCo taxpayers.

MCPS conducted surveys and roundtables.

PTAs conducted surverys and listening sessions. PTAs are allowed to advocated (1A) and in doing so can take the pulse of their members. It isn’t binding. It also isn’t nefarious.
