Since it began Monday with a ferocious aerial barrage, Israel’s military operation against Hezbollah has killed more than 700 people in Lebanon and set off a spiraling humanitarian crisis.
It was too early to tell the real toll of Friday’s strike, said Firass Abiad, Lebanon’s health minister. Four to six buildings were “completely demolished,” he added. “We expect fatalities to be high if there were people inside their apartments.
The civilian death toll would be minimal if Hezbollah was not intentionally planting their weapons and leadership into civilian areas.
Is it justifiable to kill hundreds of civilians to decimate the leadership of the Hezbollah? Is it justifiable to potentially kill hundreds of civilians to save tens of thousands?
"War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it."
Be thankful you are not in a position where you must make these decisions.

1) Tell me how Israel's killings are saving "tens of thousands". No Israelis are at risk of imminent threat from Hezbollah. Yes, Hezbollah wants to see Israel disappear and has fired rockets into the north of Israel, but (a) Israel has evacuated the residents living there to safe ground and (b) Hezbollah has said they will stop if Israel stops killing in Gaza.
2) If you are all good with "War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it." then you must have sympathy for the actions Hamas took on 10/7 (they too viewed this as war). I don't have any sympathy or support for Hamas.
3) Be thankful I am not in a decision that I MUST make these decisions. There is no MUST here. No one is making Israel make the military decisions they are making. In fact, the US and many other countries are telling them not to.
There is no imminent threat to Israel.
There is actual and live threat, killing, maiming, terrorizing Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank.

Do you know who's really thrilled about the apparent death of Hezbollah's leadership?
The vast majority of Lebanese - Sunni, Maronite Christian, even most Shi'a. No group has done more damage to Lebanon than Hezbollah. Almost the entire Arab world is absolutely delighted by Israel's targeted actions against Hezbollah - from exploding pagers and walkie talkies to the destruction of their underground hq. The Arab world and most of Lebanon is celebrating today.
There were a lot of Iraqis happy about the downfall of Saddam. We know what that led to.
I don't know what will happen in Lebanon. Ever heard the expression "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't"?
Just to be clear, I sure as hell hope this doesn't open a pandoras box of destruction.

No the Israelis said that. The “strike” obliterated a residential apartment building. There is no proof or independent assessment that shows Hezbollah was there. It was most likely a healthcare facility or a doctor’s residence.
Israel has a long history of covering its war crimes this way.
