Interesting opinion. Oakton beat number 6, SSAS, who beat number 7, Stone Ridge. Not sure "those teams would smash".
Also Madison held their own in a scrimmage with number 8, St Johns, and lost by two to Potomac (on the bubble), and Oakton beat Madison pretty handily.
Not a crazy or ill-informed ranking from WaPo.

I hardly think scheduling SSSA was to be high in the rankings. Isn’t it the goal of every team to win their District, Region and hopefully the State Championship? Players don’t make the schedule. Is Madison doing the same with their scheduling? Can you name another 6A team that has had a more difficult schedule than Madison or Oakton?

It’s also called “gaming the schedule” to get a good DC ranking. Oakton easily could have scheduled tougher competition. It didn’t.

In reality, they're second in the DC area behind GC (at least as the post ranks them). Can't really view the Baltimore area schools as DC area. Oakton deserves all the credit in the world, including for having beaten SSSAS. That said, I don't know that they'd be favored in a rematch against SSSAS or a game against any of the other ISL/WCAC teams in the top 10 or others considered.

It is curious that Oakton is ranked #5 when it hasn’t played any of the other teams on the top-ten list (aside from a one-goal game v Saints). To earn #5, Oakton should have to play a far more competitive schedule against a good portion of teams ranked 6-10.

Not sure why anyone on this forum would bash Oakton’s rating by the Post. I can’t remember ever seeing a Virginia public school ranked as high as #5 on this since it has always favored the privates. It’s nice to see Virginia publics finally getting some respect.

As a public school forum shouldn’t we be glad that one of our league teams is being considered? We all know rankings are BS nonsense but the exposure for Northern VA public league lax isn’t a bad thing as it is a national/world newspaper platform. They may or may not stay there based on playoff outcomes but I would be glad to see a few other teams from 6A up there.
