On another note, the Florida bashing on this thread is insane. Same with the constant assumption that any state with a Republican Governor is evil. What a crazy thing to do to equate an entire state with a short-lived political moment.

No one is assuming anything, you dimwit - you're moving to a state with no state income tax.

"Same with the constant assumption that any state with a Republican Governor is evil."

No one said this. FFS, Maryland has a Republican Governor. But Desantis is . . . well, a peculiar blend of stupid and crazy that Florida appears to revel in.

Not that this is going to matter to you, but Florida is a taker state - it receives more in federal aid than its citizens pay in federal income tax. That's in large part because they can't pay for themselves, because . . . they have no state income tax. A PP is right that it's a big electoral prize, so the spigot is unlikely to turn off. But as I previously noted, at some point in the not too distant future, the rest of the country is going to lose its appetite for the constant rebuilding Florida requires.

DeSantis barely won in 2018. He beat Gillum by 0.4%. The last three Republican governors elected in FL won by less than 2%. That means that very close to half the voters did not vote Republican, meaning only about half of FL revels in that peculair blend of stupid and crazy you refer to. I personally believe that the next election will go the other way and I also do not believe DeSantis will ever be President. Not that any of this is going to matter to you, dimwit, seeing as how you clearly think you are smarter than everybody. You're not.

The taxpayers pay for the rebuilds

Well, usually the federal Government bails out these uninsured homeowners, because Florida is an important electoral prize. So much for self-reliance! But all the people i know who moved to florida put their kids in private schools (which cost a lot less than DC area private schools) because the public schools aren't great.

They are tiny specialty schools of 2-500. Look at overall scores and outcomes.

Most of the schools on that list are smaller. Overall scores and outcomes are generally very good. It's easy to just say Florida schools are crap, but actually they all aren't. Many are very good. Given how much complaining I see on DCUM about Fairfax, Montgomery, and DCPS schools some might think they are crap too. People in FL can also send their kids to private schools if they want while also enjoying a lower housing cost to help them afford it.

In overall stats, Florida ranks 16th. So I agree, not crap. But Virginia is 4th, and NoVA is top in VA. And MD is 10th and MoCo is top in MD. DCPS is of course its own story, but should be compared to FL city schools like Jacksonville, Miami-Dade etc. not state and most people of means who live there go to private. People will complain about their schools because they want it perfect, but people who have moved around know we have it pretty good here.

The states with the highest income taxes are:

The top 10 highest income tax states (or legal jurisdictions) for 2020 are:

California 13.3%
Hawaii 11%
New Jersey 10.75%
Oregon 9.9%
Minnesota 9.85%
District of Columbia 8.95%
New York 8.82%
Vermont 8.75%
Iowa 8.53%
Wisconsin 7.65%

Maryland and Virginia are progressive and top out at 5.75%. You have to be over 100K of income to get to 5.75% in VA. It starts at around 2%. I'm not sure how MD works.

There is no free lunch IMO. You either pay for public services through income tax or sales tax or fees on your cars or gas tax or property tax or whatever. You also get what you pay for in many ways. If you have traveled or lived in various states you know what I mean.
