Please don’t vote for him because you are both angry about something the Falls Church city school board cannot control. Educate yourself on all of the candidates and their positions and find the ones that align with you. Then spend some time trying to influence the Fairfax health department.

I am convinced that the school board is not taking any control of the quarantines- I'm not convinced that they cannot control it. The FCHD is completely absent- the idea of a wider ranging 'pause' followed by the FCHD narrowing those that need to 'quarantine' in 24 hours worked in the Spring. This fall FCCPS is issuing the wide ranging pause, and FCHD doesn't get around to calling for 7-8 days, and at that point just assumes that if you were 'paused' you must 'quarantine.' So FCCPS needs to change. They need to be pressuring FCHD for better performance, and they need to stop the wide ranging 'pause' and wait on FCHD before putting kids in 'quarantine.' Instead FCCPS is taking a completely hands off, not my problem approach- and appears to support the 14 day quarantine.

He gets a little too in the weeds sometimes, but I like that he cares enough to watch all the meetings and actually analyzes the presentations and materials. Gould has a deep understanding of how School Boards work, too, and is an all-around nice guy. I think are by far the best equipped to manage Noonan. Not sure on my other two votes yet, but leaning Silverman for one.

That's one reason I like Anderson. He's doing the work, knocking on doors, and listening. Silverman is also out there knocking on doors. Not everyone can do lots of door knocking, but I've heard people mention Anderson, Gould, Silverman, Ortiz, and Mooney going around to houses. I've even seen Shapiro at the Farmer's Market.

The only candidate that I haven't heard of doing anything (except handing out signs) is Tysse.

I don't think Tysse is doing anything. I'm not even sure she's the one handing out signs - I think her friends are doing it for her. While her bio makes clear she has a lot of good experience, I'd like to see her put in some effort on this campaign and not just assume she'll be elected (which she will because she has broad PTA support and the administration likes her because she won't challenge Dr. Noonan). I'm clearly in the minority on that feeling, though!

I like her personally but I am not planning to vote for her. I get the impression that she was talked into running and doesn't especially want the position and I think she will be a 'benign by stander' school board member.

Also it will be moot in a few weeks. Once the younger kids are vaccinated, they won’t need to pause or quarantine if they don’t have symptoms.

The quarantine time frame is set by the health department, not by the School Board, and is based on the incubation period for the virus.

Right, “defending the constitution” from mask and vaccine mandates and library books about trans kids. I really hope he doesn’t win but like others, I am worried he will because there are so many open seats and most people won’t know much about his beliefs. Plus I think that there are more people in FCC that think like him than some of realize.

And also I think he may win.

I agree. I would think Youngkin has more appeal to an FCC voter than Trump, and Shapiro would have more appeal than Youngkin. Trump took 17% of the FCC vote. There are 4 open seats . . . how much of the vote does Shapiro realistically need to win? If all his supporters vote only for him, I think his odds go way up.

Does anyone think Shapiro will eek out a seat?
