I'm all for reopening everything once people who want to get vaccinated can, but right now there are plenty of people with underlying medical conditions who can't get vaccinated, let alone anyone who wants a vaccine. We really can't wait another month or two?
Nope, we can't, because it's NEVER "another month or two." I am old enough to remember when we were told we were shutting down to "flatten the curve" and "prevent the hospitals from being overloaded." Well, the curve is flattened and the hospitals never overloaded. The goal posts just keep moving. Next it's going to be "well, ppl with underlying medical conditions and old people and service workers are vaccinated, but there's no vax for kids!! Can't you just wait two more months until all of the kids are vaxed?" No. Cut the BS.
NP. FIRST of all, the entire point was to flatten the curve so we could improve medical. WHICH TRUMP DID NOT DO. IF HE DID WHAT BIDEN HAS DONE IN 90 DAYS WE WOULD NOT BE HERE.
Dont you dare suggest that this was BS. HE is the BS so don't gaslight and change the history to a lie. PERIOD.
PP - You are clueless about public health, government and politics.

Here are today's numbers, before the restrictions are lifted.

That's next up! We will not stop until that is accomplished. (PSA - come join us at the Rally for Bowser this Saturday at 2:00!)
Way to go! Advertise a super spreader event! Really this whole thing has just been fake news.

Enjoy your COVID while a lot of Marylanders struggle to get vaccinated.

It is most certainly not "over" and idiots like hogan are why it has and will continue to drag out longer than necessary.
This, Hogan will not be voted for ever again.
He can’t run for Governor again and there’s no way he gets elected to anything else.
Exactly. So he might as well do what's best for the people of his state, politics be damned. Which he is doing. I think this is a terrific and courageous move on his part.
Personally I think he did this to gain points with arsenal later on. He can point to his opening up MD as showing his conservative cred.

From WaPo:
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday said he will lift capacity limits on indoor and outdoor dining, retail businesses, fitness centers and religious establishments — the most dramatic steps taken toward reopening in the region since the winter surge in coronavirus cases.
The executive order from Hogan (R), to take effect at 5 p.m. Friday, also allows large venues such as concert halls and theaters to return to 50 percent capacity and for adult day-care centers to reopen. Quarantine requirements for out-of-state travel are also being lifted.
I don't think any of this is crazy. Yeah, if it were me, I'd probably hold back for another few weeks, but we're splitting hairs at this point, and people who are concerned can wait.
BUT - I DO think it's crazy to do this before opening schools. It just shows crazy misplaced priorities.
I would have a lot more respect if he ordered all schools opened, with all students having the option to come 5 days a week, immediately. Get that un and running then worry about theaters!
Have you been following any of this? Hogan has been clear that he wants school open this month.
+1. He tried! But does not have the authority, it’s up to the individual BOE’s. And they are so in bed with the unions they stalled and stalled and Hogan finally said f##k it, get on with it.
Does the state have no authority, or does he just not want to use it? Gov. Baker is flexing his authority in MA. But I don’t know how MD differs in terms of what the state can or can’t dictate.
In one of his press conferences he said he does not have authority.
Anonymous wrote:Serious question — specifically, what do people want open that isn’t already open? It seems to me that everything is mostly already open with capacity restrictions. My issue is that I just don’t want to do certain things like indoor theaters or dining. But that stuff is open already, right?

Thats going to be the extent of my partay. Will continue to socialize with friends (some vaxxed, some not) outside unless all the group have vaccines. If its too difficult to tell, we will be outside. I will continue to wear a mask in the same way I have done until now - in most situations except distanced outdoor exercise, putting it on when someone is close. I especially dont want to cause additional worry for someone who has not been vaxxed by coming close to them without my mask. They have no idea if I have a vaccine or not, the science on being a carrier isnt fully out, and it's moral support. We need to get through this as a country and keep the pressure up on politicians that everyone who wants a vaccine gets one as soon as possible. And then yes, we need to keep the pressure up to vaccinate kids once safe vaccines are developed.
Anyone who is that worried about catching covid passing someone for two seconds on a walk has issues. Sorry, I’ve played that game when rates were high and it was cold but pretty much over that now. I’ll continue with most of the other things you describe though.
I'm glad to hear that. However, until everyone who wants a vax can get one - wearing a mask in proximity to strangers is very basic respect. I also don't want to give cover to unvaccinated folks, by norming not mask wearing. It should be the overall norm in "mixed society" until we are through this. I want summer camps and summer fun to open up again, don't you? It's a few more months to be respectful and show protection for our fellow humans by following best practices in situations where we have vaccinated and unvaccinated folks mixing.
To the best of my knowledge the mask mandate has not been lifted in MD or MoCo, so yes, people should continue to follow the rules. It's not about respect, it's about preventing the spread of germs when you can't maintain distance.
It's both , just like it's unsafe and disrespectful to not mask up when you should.

I voted for him last go around he seems determined to ruin his standing with democrats in his final year as governor. All for naught as he has no future in the current Republican Party as a presidential candidate.
