If I had political aspirations, I would not think it wise to be associated with them. I am sure there are some reasonable people in it, but they have stayed members while teachers who have worked so hard this year have been completely disparaged. I’m also not a fan of the hysteria- distance learning is not root of all evil, nor should school be the panacea for everything.

Some members of APE are taking it too far on the various Arlington email groups when it’s not even relevant. So mental.
Whatever. they have my full support and the support of many friends/families. Most of them are busy working and taking care of their families, and hence, do not have the time to engage with the anti-opening, keep schools closed forever group here on DCUM.

Your Student, Every Day
APS is Ready
Did I miss the announcement that COVID is over? Because I swear I just heard the CDC Director and President Biden say now is not the time to relax our mitigation efforts because 50,000 people a day are catching COVID and 2,000 people a day are still dying from it. Presumably this mitigation includes the social distancing that is impossible if all students go back right now. I also heard President Biden say yesterday that adults will be vaccinated by the end of May, so maybe it's worth waiting for at least that?
WTAF is wrong with them?

This a thousand times. And it I hate hearing how everyone is tried of the same ole , same ole and nothing ever gets done. The reason is that when everyone thinks a like there is no discussion, debate and no impetus to make any change. It's only when we in Arlington start electing non Democrats that something different will start happening. Debate and defending ideas is needed for growth.
I agree on some level. I liked Vihstadt.
But we don't need crackpots.
And see right there you are the problem!
No doubt you think Republican = crackpot
I honestly think the fear stems from the fact that many people in Arlington are Republicans at heart and they wouldn’t be able to control themselves with agreeing with Republican school board or county board members and their biggest fear is being outed for not really believing their liberal/social justice yard signs 🙄

I appreciate APE and everyone who has been advocating for schools to open up. It's much easier to keep them closed and not deal with the logistics of opening, which has been APS's stance for the past year. Just like "No Instruction" from March - June. They took the easy route until being forced to GSD.
Liar. He was already scheduled to announce RTS plans a week later.
APE is irrational and hasn’t done anything productive aside from keep some sign maker in business.
Nice try.. he was forced to announce before he planned on it. He lost control over announcing the dates, big sign of a weak leader.
APE has provided a lot of community awareness and stuck to data and facts and relied on the experts about reopening. They have immense local support.
