Is anyone really surprised?

Maybe it’s because 5-7 girls from FCV seem to always be pulled to the NTC from each team, while surrounding teams might only get 1-2. Clearly not better, just politically inclined.

I think just isn't true, is it? I just looked at the standings for the top flights and see:
U15 Bethesda and VDA winning their respective groups, and scheduled to play a final against each other
U16 Local teams mostly in the bottom half, but after two games only Bethesda have a GD of worse than -2 and have not managed at least a draw in one of their two games. FCV has a win, and a loss to the top ranked team.
U17 Pipeline with two wins out of two, Arlington, Md Utd and FCV all with at least one win and a GD between -1 and +1, and only Baltimore with two losses out of two - which came to the two top ranked teams
U19 Pipeline, McLean, Md United all winning every game sit atop the results table and Bethesda currently with one win and one loss.

U18 seems to be a little irrelevant as most of the top clubs appear to have entered the U19 group and not the U18 group.

So - are our local teams absolutely dominating the competition? No. But we seem to be doing fine as far as I can see where it looks very much like the top ranked team in at least two - and perhaps as many as three when all is said and done - of the four age groups (not counting U18 for reasons already stated) will be won by a local club.

He sounds like a disenfranchised coach who is started a new program and is trying to convince parents that his way is the better way.

I have plenty idea what I’m talking about. I’ve been involved in travel soccer in this area for a long time as a player, coach and parent. The quality isn’t what it should be. Not enough technical development, too much emphasis on the wrong attributes, especially at the younger age groups. But hey, enjoy watching many of our local ECNL teams in the 3rd bracket struggling to deal with EDP and ECNL-R teams.

The players and teams today would smoke your back in the day Bullsh@t. That’s a fact. Your back in the day bullsh@t is why we are here Mr. Old timer that’s been around a long time. There are some very good clubs and teams that are not ECNL in PA. They are destination clubs...like Eagle FC. Clubs like that all across this country.

What are the wrong attributes? The out of state teams I have seen that have won are all bigger, stronger, meaner, and faster. So, don’t give us the technical development, Euro-futbol BS please. But, yes oh wise one, please educate us all.

Unfortunately, you sound like every other disenfranchised DCUM player/coach/parent on here trying to beat down the area clubs by pointing out flaws that are actually due to dilution, not training. Could the quality be higher? Of course, there is always room to grow everywhere you look.

Is dilution a bad thing? Only from the perspective of the top 10% of players/families at the truly elite level. They are the only ones suffering and this is where the biggest gap is in the system, providing an outlet for these players. The rest are enjoying the prospect of better average quality of games that are more localized. Dilution is a sign of growth in the pay to play youth soccer system. Free markets grow automatically to fill demand.
