yes there isn't a lot of evidence of spread because they weren't testing in those studies.

They contact traced and few cases could be traced back to schools. The problems were - wait for it - indoor gatherings and restaurants.

I'm the "re-open people are LOUD" poster. I think you all proved my point.

1) I desperately WANT all schools open and I think everyone does, it's just how to go about it.

2) When I think of community spread, I think most teachers, myself, and most people will be fine. But some will suffer horrific illness and/or death. While it probably won't be me, it could. But more importantly, I am passing the virus to many other people. It just doesn't sit well with my conscience. Not everyone will be fine, even if you are.

3) EVERYONE is struggling with what to do. Lord knows I am.

To go back to OP’s original question: we were offered a spot for one of our kids but turned it down. Logistically, we could not manage drop off/pick up for a half day for one kid at the same time the other two needed help getting online (our kids are early elementary and can’t do it alone, nor are we comfortable leaving them home alone). I manage school for the kids and my partner’s job means she isn’t reliably available to help. Plus, we have a high risk family member and the new more contagious and possibly more lethal strains make us very nervous. Not everyone who turned down a spot thinks it is because everyone is going to die once schools reopen. We weighed the pros and cons to our child against the costs to his two siblings and our family and at the end of the day DL is going well enough for our family that it didn’t feel right to take the spot. But I don’t judge anyone who made a different decision.

Um, no, this is not the case in DC. If you hint at wanting schools to reopen you are shouted down as not caring about racial equity and being pro-death.

+1. That’s a baseless assertion and misperception. The main reason that schools have been closed this long in DC is that there has been very little public pressure way too long, because DC parents were either too scared of the virus or too scared of being lumped in with the Trumpers if they argued the benefits of reopening schools outweighed the risks.
