Let that sink in. Too many people armed (illegally) while committing a crime. Too much of a threat to law enforcement for them to do their job.
This was not a success. This was barely hanging on, avoiding a coup. A success would have been mass arrests with appropriate precautions and backup if the criminals started shooting.
This was predictable, 'worst case scenario' mayhem. Many lessons to be learned, including to get over our reticence to use NG and riot gear police. Yes, the optics aren't great. But I'd rather have protestors feelings get hurt (while protecting their right to peaceful, permitted protest) than what happens when mobs run amuck. We all lose then.
As long as they are peaceful black protestors. If they are violent white rioters it’s okay for the feds to stand down and blame the mayor.
Are you ignoring that there was an "outcry" after this summer and the Feds (and Bowser) were responding to that? FWIW, I have zero issue with MG in black or white demonstrations. Come for both!
You still fail to see the point. What Bowser did for city streets and the National Guard was adequate for what happened. The issue was at the US Capitol. The Capitol Police and the Feds willfully effed up. That is NOT Bowsers fault. That is on the President and the Trump appointed head of the AOC.

Head of DC National Guard, William Walker. Today's Post. Youre welcome!:
Walker said one takeaway from the Jan. 6 riot should be that when in doubt, city and federal authorities should always err on the side of requesting a contingency of National Guard troops to be at the ready in advance, even if they don’t end up being used.
"
I just thought I'd highlight the rest of it for you -- the "and federal authorities" part. As you said to a PP: You're welcome.
Curious, why did you highlight "city" while completely ignoring "federal authorities"? Is it something personal with Mayor Bowser that stops you from fully reading, or perhaps fully understanding even the quotes that you post yourself?
Also curious: Are you actively advocating for DC statehood? So that the Mayor can become a Governor and actually have some of the authority and powers that you clearly believe someone in her position should have?
Because this thread is in DC Metro Politics and titled "Bowser". OF COURSE the Feds share culpability, as has been mentioned MANY times in this thread and in threads in National Politics.
Well, at least you're consistent in your over-focusing. I hope you can appreciate that others often prefer stuff like contexts and actual facts.
So are you "Civilian-splainin'" the HEAD of the DC National Guard?![]()
![]()
No, just you, and your curious inability to look beyond your current grasp of the situation.
