That article is 10 years old.

There are no 5'7 female GKs left in pro soccer. On the USWNT, Harris is 5'9. Beldsoe is 5'9. Franch is 5'9. Those coming up are very tall, no YNT GK is under 5'9 and more than a few are taller still.

My DD is 6'2" on U15 and can just about stand with her hands on the crossbar.

Again...so the average height is approximately two inches above the gender average for bother European male and USWNT. Griping stuff

Your cousin is a heck of a player to be able to play at a big school while being at 5’4” and a freshman.

5’9” or taller, great shot-stopper, vertical leap that gets hands over the crossbar quickly, excellent communication skills and game IQ to direct the play in the defensive third.

The lower the school is on that soccer list, the fewer of those things they’ll be able to get in their keeper. It’s not that hard.

Let’s put it this way. You are far more likely to see a 5’9 player starting a women’s college game than a 5’4 player. Even though 50% of the US population is under 5’5 and only 1% is 5’9. Size matters a great deal and is a major factor in selecting players.

If your kid is good enough, UVA and Tech are the obvious winners for in-state to combine soccer and school power. The rest of us have to pick and choose. I'll let you cross-reference and figure it out

Good post.

Why just focus on VA college teams? There are DC and Maryland colleges too.

Because I'm a VA resident and it will cost me four times as much to send my kid out of state to get the same degree. For me, unless theyre giving some serious money, its public in-state. I rather my kid focus on the right degree at a cheap cost rather than the name of a school.

Maybe some employers and job recruiters can chime in....?

For DC, its easy

Georgetown, GW, American, Howard

For MD,

Its MD, Loyola, (Hopkins), Towson, UMBC.

They want what everyone else wants. The lower in rankings they are, the less choosey they can be. Thats for every position. With that said, they are still looking for the well rounded player. Physically, cognitively, etc to help them win. College coaches make a living on their teams performance. They take ever recruit serious.
