There is an info night on immersion at KG where you can ask specific questions. Not sure when, but call and ask.

Nice kids and nice parents. I have not seen any bullying (at least not in early grades). It's a crowded school, though--large class size.

How about where do immersion students from Kent Gardens go after 6th grade?

You can't win on DCUM. You get criticized for starting a new thread ("use the search function ya dum butt"). You get criticized for reviving an old thread. I'd like to know what the social atmosphere is like - if you are from out of district, is it harder to fit in?

Oh come on! You know better. When there are already 38 threads about which sippy cup is best or tips for managing Disney World, it's just plain lazy to start a new thread asking for input on these topics. Use the search engine. But when there's an emotional thread about the merits of a school that is years old, it's just plain "stirring the pot" to revive it. There's a big difference.

We're new to the school but seemed to have touched a raw nerve. So be it. See the newly created thread. Would welcome any helpful advice you might have. Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome.

no

Do most kids just go back to their assigned middle school? Or do many go private?

I don't know about the specifics, but most of the kids go on to Longfellow Middle School, which is their assigned middle school. Half the program is designed to be inbound KG and many of the out of bound students are in neighboring elementary school districts. Longfellow allows them to take the full one year French I in 7th grade and French II in 8th grade, all other students can take French I over two years (or Spanish or Latin). It used to be that out of boundary students in the French program at KG were allowed to go to Longfellow, but I think that has changed. Some, of course, go to privates but it isn't in great multitudes.

Our children are receiving a top-notch education in a top-notch facility. Dr. Hooker and the rest of the administration truly care about the education and safety of each and every child at that school.

The unfortunate thing about living in a place like McLean, Virginia is that many parents feel entitled to ensure that their own needs are put above those of the rest of the students and parents. I see the poll below. It is completely worthless since only people who have time to follow the shrill parents are responding. The vast majority of parents have a wonderful experience at KGES, and that does not come from a poll. My personal experience is from being in the school and interacting with the faculty, staff, kids, and parents.

I hope that these parents who are a DISTRACTION for the administration will find it in their hearts to simply remove their children and go somewhere else.

Wow. Haters. I am truly shocked that my daughter might actually go to school with your children and be exposed to your negativity and self-righteous attitudes thru your childrens learned behaviors.

I heard about this blog from a friend that does not even go to Kent Gardens. It is just as bad as I was told. I like KG ( see I know how to you abreviatioms!) LOL. Anyway, I like KG and have had no problems with the staff or teachers. My daughter really enjoys herself and has a good time. There are alot of "voluntary" contributions to teacher funds, parties, flowers, fun days, pizza parties, cupcakes, cakes, retirement funds, streamers and party favors, whew have to take a breath....but you get the idea.

What I have had a problem with is the parents, not all of course, but a select few who obviously post on this thread. I suspect those trouble parents are more concerned with themselves than with their children.

Well, it isn't like I haven't enjoyed my time here but I am headed outside with my daughter to play for awhile before the sun goes down, have dinner, and then we are going to read a few books before sleepies. I love the spring. Oh, did anybody get to go to the Cherry Blossom festival? It was very beautiful.
