Grassley has already said that he would not consider a SC justice nomination in 2020. So have Murkowski, Collins and Romney. Unless McConnell can pressure these four to change their minds, they have all publicly said that they would not vote to fill a SC seat in 2020. And they have all said so in the last few months.

What’s with the GOP obsession with Catholics on the court?
Pro-life stuff?
Catholic Church’s obsession with sex and with controlling women’s bodies.
Not fair. MANY MANY of us are just as D as you. This is R v. D, not Catholic v. something else.
+1. My whole family is Catholic and they're all Democrats. And my FIL is on the parish council at his Catholic church and he's also a hardcore Democrat. Catholics and Eastern Orthodox tend to vote D.
NP. Curious - how do you reconcile being pro-choice with being Catholic?
PP. I'm not Catholic anymore (converted to Eastern Orthodoxy) and I do consider myself pro-life. I vote Democrat because at this point I disagree with almost everything else the Republicans stand for. Especially after the last four years. And I think that as a PP said, a better social safety net, maternity leave, etc will do more to help women and decrease abortions than reversing Roe v Wade.
For what it's worth, one man I know who is in his late 70s is a hardcore Trump supporter but he's always been pro-choice because he remembers what it was like before 1973 and doesn't want to go back to that.
PP here. Thanks for taking the time to explain your thoughts. I’m exactly the opposite - a pro-choice Trump voter. I used to vote strictly Democrat because I was so worried about Roe v Wade, but then realized I couldn’t just be a one-issue voter. And that’s pretty much all I agree with the Dems about these days. So I am now a moderate conservative.

?? So as long as Democrats control the court, it is OK, no matter the means?

We have lost so much in their service and model of what was/could be in their passing.

So the kind of Catholics like Joe and Nancy, who don't really believe the teachings?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Biden should nominate Obama.
No. This is an awful idea. Obama is certainly qualified and its been done before (Taft) but this would be politically stupid.

Filling this seat is worth more than the 2020 election. The GOP can lock up SCOTUS for a generation if we play our cards right.
I'm going to keep repeating this. That's not how this is supposed to work!
Not how what is supposed to work? Democrat SCOTUS justices have been forcing MASSIVE social and economic changes on the nation for 90 years. Is THAT how it is supposed to work?
