He’s in third. It’s not like he came in dead last.
I hope they realize a significant number of people DID support Austin and want change. He also didn’t have the same endorsements that Harris and Dasgupta did, and still got a fair amount of votes.
14,589 voters (14.9%), at last count. 85% of voters (at last count) didn't vote for him.

I think it's quite likely that either Dasgupta or Harris (depending on who wins in November) will have that fact vividly in their memory.
DP. I could also see Austin running again in 2022.

I personally voted for Steve Austin because I don’t think there is enough diversity on the BOE. The President, Vice President and both at large members are from the Silver Spring area. We have a large and diverse county and we need a more balanced BoE.
Most of the east county is "Silver Spring".
Also, the Board of Education consists of 5 district and 2 at-large members (and one SMOB).
Shebra Evans, currently the Board of Education president, lives in "Silver Spring" because that's where District 4 is.
Brenda Wolff, currently the Board of Education vice president, lives in "Silver Spring" because that's where District 5 is.
Similarly, Pat O'Neill lives in Bethesda, because that's where District 3 is. Hey, how about that? She lives in Bethesda, just like Steve Austin!

The two most powerful positions (President and Vice President) and both at large positions are filled by people from the greater Silver Spring area. We need to hear more/different voices. Again this is a large and diverse county and our students have different needs- there is an achievement gap, we have a large special needs community, we have a large number of both gifted as well as highly gifted students, we have to ensure our students have pathways to college as well as to vocational training given the rapid economic and technological changes occurring in our society.
What is the "greater Silver Spring area?" Silver Spring, as an unincorporated area, is enormous and encompasses a tremendous amount of diversity. It has some rural areas, as well as densely populated ones. It has high value homes, and low-income housing. It also has families whose kids have special needs, gifted, and highly gifted students.
So what exact diversity do you think is missing?

Do you mean this from their original introduction?
Schools are the centerpiece of a thriving community and are directly linked to the development of our children into contributing members of our community. The success and perception of our schools also affects our property values, safety and local economic development.
They're not wrong.
Seriously what is wrong with this? Our property taxes fund lots of things we ALL benefit from including our public school system

PP- actually you sound like you're the one that's uninformed. You really need to be OPEN and be willing to hear all voices and do your research. If you did, then you would know that Austin's platform is not about preserving property values. By the way, one very vocal group who opposes him, ONE Montgomery- one of the reasons they were formed was to increase their property values. Truth.
Your definition of truth must be different from mine.
That's very obvious. Do your research and you will see.
This is One Montgomery's vision. Which of these are you against?
EQUITY. Allocate resources according to educational load to ensure that each child receives instruction and supports according to her needs in order to receive a world-class education.
LEADERSHIP. Competent and effective leadership at all levels, with commitment to accountability, transparency and results.
ACCESS. Ensure that all students are able to access the excellent opportunities MCPS has to offer, according to ability and desire, and are actively recruited and encouraged to achieve.
DIVERSITY. Promote hiring practices so that professional staffing reflects student population.
COMMUNITY. Stimulate (support) use of school facilities as a center of community activities.
PARTNERSHIP. Actively seek to establish and maintain partnerships with businesses and non-profits for the benefit of students.
