Yes stated in the first page on the book. Glad they changed it, more interesting to have the siblings realize how awful their mom could be after the horrible things she said to Izzy and "burn down the (perfect) house." Good metaphor.

This was a horrible finale. It held to the book in a lot of ways but not for the final "fire."

In the book, Izzy disappears and Elena spends her life looking for her. She hated her, but then loses her and it destroys her. I sobbed when listening to the ending.

Like most of the show, the ending made no sense.

A group of siblings are "inspired" by their whiny sister to burn down their house? Just like that? Teenagers love their stuff. There's just no way. WTF.

And Izzy just...leaves? With no money, no clothes, and no friends? How did she buy a bus ticket? She must be totally mental if her dream is that Mia will pick her up and become her mom. Mia is an even bigger loon than Elena.

And LOL to the adoptive parents who--what?--left a window wide open for Bebe to crawl into? Did they also prop up a ladder on the side of the house to make it easier for her? Or maybe they just left the doors unlocked and cookies on the kitchen counter in case she wanted a snack? SO STUPID and unbelievable--literally, I don't believe it. And Bebe was in Niagara Falls--is she escaping to Canada? (Also, the wife there is NEVER going to forgive her husband for discouraging her to check on the baby. That's a divorce.)

And Elena just...remembers a bird feather from 7 years ago?

And Mia...good grief. You'd think she's all cried out, but...nope! Still a deep reserve of self-pity and lip-quivering. And she told Parl her parents disowned her. Another lie. They told her not to come to the funeral. That's not disowning. Mia was judgmental as hell then, and she still is. Of all the characters on this show, she is the one I have the least sympathy for.

Uh, they point blank told Elena they did not consider Mia's child their grandchild. That part of the ending made not sense.

Mia was a typical college art student when she was approached by the soon-to-be-father on the train. He was attracted to her looks (just like his wife's), he wasn't after someone poor to take advantage of (again, in this story, not the case with surrogacy generally). The loss of her scholarship came later (that's when she decided to say yes) and the cut off from her family happened only in late pregnancy when they found out. I think it's a false take on the story to pretend Mia was taken advantage of, that the couple had "little regard" of Mia, and that somehow depriving Pearl of a loving father was ok given all that.

The only reason she decided to say yes, a crucial point.
