DC finished the Blair Magnet and did see many students challenged by the curriculum. There were also some who were offered remedial help. It seems that most students who thought they were gifted because of the MCPS curriculum suddenly found a basic high school curriculum at the magnet challenging. There is no evidence that the program is anything other than a high school curriculum. While some think that high school projects like high school projects like this https://polistat.mbhs.edu/ are a big deal, a weighted average analysis like that is something taught at many other good high schools. Just look it up.

Irrespective of how good a program is, Magnet (test in ones) programs have the best cohort. All the kids look at others and elevate themselves in areas where they are behind. It is a healthy competition and great cooperation between the kids. I don't see that in other non-magnet programs (any other than Blair/RMIB/Poolsville).

DC is currently in Blair magnet. It is a very rigorous program with many dedicated teachers. DC is certainly challenged and has to study a lot even though things always come naturally to DC.

Complete trolling.

TPMS students, if accepted, do go to Blair. They are usually the biggest cohorts in the magnet program. I don't think anyone needs to trash talk the program. It isn't what it used to be. But, it meets the desires of some and that is all that matters.

Most (my DC included) if not all TPMS magnets would like to continue their cohort at Blair.

Blair and Poolsville SMCS programs are still the best for STEM.

What is the demographic change you speak of and which groups are avoiding the school?

That is just silliness. He does not need to use any influence to get people to write glowingly about the program. It is an excellent program. My sophomore has surpassed my math level already, and I earned 8 credits of Calculus from HS AP. He is very pragmatic and low key, so this picture does not fit with his character at all, nor does it smack of any truth about the program. This is just trolling.

Not to say there aren't lots of great options. There area, and yes, there may have been one or even a couple of kids who turned down Blair for Wheaton. Totally fine. To each his/her own. That does not take away from Blair's reputation or suggest that the coordinator is pulling strings somehow. That's just ridiculous.

That is interesting; are there better programs? The only other ones for us were Poolesville Ecology and RMIB, i am not sure if they are any better than Blair.

I know someone who passed up Blair magnet for Wheaton Engineering.

It’s a great program!

Had DC graduate from the Poolesville magnet. It was outstanding because of the options available. The parents and teachers were excellent.
