Are you Kate?
No, most people would not handle it that way, because they aren't vicious to their own kids that way.
Stressed out, overwhelmed people who are shouldering the weight of an enormous responsibility all by themselves sometimes say and do regretful things. This thing with the teddy bear was not good but I think Kate was beyond frustrated with the lack of common sense in giving 6 very small children chewing gum. Kate was running a tight ship on a strict budget and the stupidity of it all just set her off.
Jon often did stupid things just like this and I think that Kate just blew her top.
She wasn’t alone or by herself. She had an army of supportive help.
Everyone blows up occasionally but Kate’s been filmed multiple times going off the rails over the years over little things. She’s a control freak who can’t manage her anger. She bullied Colin. Then Hannah, which is why she’s now living with her dad too.
Her twins deliberately embarrassed her in an interview:

Because it’s the only power they have.
Well too bad that their daddy ran off and completely abdicated his responsibility to his family. You try to support and care for 8 kids all by yourself and come back and tell us what a saint you were at all times.
They were still married at that point, and he was a fully involved parent.
I can't believe I'm feeding what I have to believe is a troll.

Lady, you need help.

+1. I wonder if it's a regular DCUM reader, or someone who found this thread through some sort of search/alert.
If you're asking if I know Kate or have any connection at all to the kids or to Jon - nope. Just stating my opinion.
Kate is no saint, she has her flaws and I'm sure that she has made her fair share of parenting mistakes along the way. But I do believe that she loves her kids and truly is trying to do good by them. I also think that Jon has a mean and selfish streak that is a mile wide.
You are strange. In no way could she be considered a good parent -- just based on her own documented activities. She goes far beyond having "her flaws."
Maybe she loved her kids enough to know that she couldn't do it alone and the help she got from the TLC crew made a huge difference in their lifestyle, upbringing and health.
8 kids are a lot of kids. Kate used her strengths to make sure that there were always others around to help out. If she had only had Jon to rely on...shudder.
You are really, really weird.
No. I have empathy and understanding. Trying to take care of 8 children all alone would be overwhelming.
