I think the original point was that Bethesda and Arlington second teams are better than most first teams. I don’t like either club, but this is indisputably on the boys side pre-DA. Most, not all. But certainly most.

Based on what I've seen in CCL Next Gen, I'd say this is true in terms of results if you substitute "equal to or better than" for "better than". But (1) those results aren't posted: and (2) it really is meaningless at the younger ages. The question was whether your kid will improve on a B (or lower) team at Bethesda, and for the boys side anyway, I think the answer is yes for most kids. As always, you should check out a team and practice in person before making any decisions.

There is nothing crazy about stating facts in response to statements that are factually tenuous. Why is this crazy? It is their top teams. What is really crazy is that this includes the 2009 team, playing a year up in the top EDP division and beating a lot of the top U11 teams in maryland. Same with 2009 Pipeline, which is playing in the same first division and one division above Pipeline’s top 2008 team. Obviously recruiting has something to do with this but you do not get even top players to do that well without teaching them how to play properly.

I see a 5-1-1 record with a +31 goal differential in what seems like the top NCSL division at that age. Seems pretty solid to me.

It really depends on the gender and year. I think a lot of talk of "no point" relates to the older years. There's been a lot of A/B shuffling this year in the boys YDP for 2010. Can't speak to the rest.

A PP said there's no point to being on the 2nd team at BSC.
The next poster said that a half dozen kids from the 2nd team just made the U12 DA.
Unless you can disprove that, it seems like there's a reasonable reason to stick with the 2nd team.
