Are you speaking about MA in general or just 05? I think you have a point re: the strength of MA conference? I think the NE is clearly stronger with clubs such as FC Stars, PDA, MatchFit and Connecticut FC. Yet, McLean's ECNL teams (across age groups) manage to do well in that conference while also competing well in national ECNL events and elite regional tournaments (JeffCup, Bethesda Tourn, WAGS Tourn). McLean 05 team did beat a very good MD Rush team to take the Championship in one pre-season tournament and lost the same team to finish as finalist at JeffCup. Clearly, McLean brought in some new talent from outside the club but that should not be a surprise.

The way I heard it last year almost half the MYS ECNL 05 team departed for DA. So where did MYS 05 ECNL get half a team to fill in? Coach must have had some out of club recruits in his back pocket. So that doesnt fare well for that clubs younger players, better get some extra training.

I am guessing that the dilution of competitive players in your age group is giving your team a slight advantage We all know not one single team has been attracting the 18 best of the best like in other areas. Its basically your average players vs our average players, some who are passed puberty, some who havent hit it yet. egos and traffic in the area wont ever let us have the best of the best. So keep bragging about winning MA records which is basic AF outside of a rec league.

So McLean 05 last year was terrible in a weak basic AF ECNL division? Now, after losing half their team, they are #2 in a weak basic AF ECNL division? Roger that!

I'm going with another theory on why things turned around.

“Trading places at 2 and 3” is bragging? I’m not even a McLean or VDA parent. The discussion is about regional ECNL programs. McLean clearly got better. Clyde obviously knows what he’s doing.

No, no, no you’re right. McLean 05 is horrible and their division is too. You guys win.

Who hurt you? Oh well it’s settled. A bunch of parents said it’s a horrible division last year. MA has a reputation nationally as a competitive division.

I believe kids came from Arlington kids wanting to be able to play HS and a few CCL clubs. Their only loss this spring was to VDA and it was 1-0. They also lost in the Jeff Cup final.

The top 3 teams in MA 05 will do well at nationals.

It was implied a year ago that the top 05 talent went to WS VA last year.
Interesting how that worked out.

Kids went to Spirit and they obviously replaced them with better players. McLean and VDA have been trading places at 2 and 3 in the Mid Atlantic Conference. Looking at Loudoun’s scores against them, how can we assume Loudoun is going to be so bad next year? They’ve lost by a goal to both. They lost to McLean in the last minute too.

Loudoun lost to both by merely a goal??? and Mclean and VDA are bragging about being the best in the area??? Goodness that sure is some big brass ones. Loudoun who until recently was the pathway to FCV and maybe still is.

I'm sure that makes the Loudoun board proud.

FCV is the thorn in Loudouns side.

Loudoun has never produced a top tier older girls team. For the biggest player in the state, that's sad. They desperately need to get one in the future to establish crediability. Time for them to graduate from kiddie ball.

Cool. What now?

McLean girls teams for next year at recruiting ages as compared to other top teams in area:

03 - good
04 - below average
05 - good

These age groups are a far cry from the older teams that McLean has and has had before there were 8 - 10 other ecnl/da options in the area.

Facts.
