I went to the Rockville Target on Bou Ave this week and thought of this thread. They’re mid-renovation and it is a disaster. Wow. Huge mess.

I live near the Reston one and got fed up this weekend too when they didn’t have 80% of what I needed and what they did have was priced high (our usual cat litter now costs $3 more). Drove to Fair Lakes to do Wal Mart which I always avoided. But at least it was easy to find what i needed.

I honestly would pay the higher prices if it still had the old easy to locate layout (I did plenty of impulse shopping with that layout).

Agree! I stopped going there and now go the LB one. The LB one is really nice and reminds me of old school department stores when I was a kid.

I am trying to figure out which is the LB one. What does LB stand for?

I think the target near me went down hill asoon as they included groceries. There is less space for the other stuff which means they have less selection and always are out if stock. Half the time I am there I am standing in the aisle, looking at the empty shelf and pull out my phone to order from amazon. Not to mention the groceries increase the odds of gross shopping carts. I think target is running into the problem sears had - it cannot decide what it wants to be. It was an upscale Walmart. By adding cheap groceries, it is trying to be both upscale and downscale and it does not work.

Yes and the groceries are absurdly priced so I never buy them anyway.

Disenchantment with Target is good timing because I want to generate less plastic waste anyway. Now our whole food supply is infused with microplastics - endocrine disruptors that may be connected to obesity.

Costco.

Definitely Costco. It’s so much cheaper - like 50% cheaper- and you go once and you’re done for 4-6 weeks.

I'd go to Costco more if they could figure out their GD parking lot and check out lines. And the gas lines. It's the worst experience EVER anytime I go to Costco. I love shopping there, but everything else is awful. I went to costco yesterday at 2pm and it was a mad house. Sterling Costco is normally where I go.

Well, probably everyone is going just before school pickup at that hour? Go earlier or later and you’re probably good. Never on a Saturday, omg!!
People are even running in that place as the doors close at 6 on weekends.

Best idea is probably join Costco and have paper goods delivered?

Is 2pm a bad time for Costco? I used to go at 12 and that was worse because of the lunch crowd. After 4pm is a disaster. I can’t go early. Please someone tell me when to go to Costco. It’s so packed I feel like they need a sign like the ERs “gas-40 minutes”

3 pm? Kid school pickup time?

I try to get to Costco right when it opens, around 9:45-10am. That's the only time that seems doable, crowd-wise. I wish they'd open up earlier and I'd go immediately after the kids get on the bus.

I was in there today, and shocked. I rarely look at the women’s clothes. I always assume junky and unattractive. But today I was perusing, their swim suits, cute pool/beach bags, women’s athletic and casual wear, PJs, bras and undies, cute tops. Nice muted colors.

It's *TARGET*. It used to be the most easily navigated, well-stocked store I shopped in. I could get household necessities, makeup, cute clothes for the entire family, office supplies, and a few groceries. It had EVERYTHING, laid out in an orderly, logical fashion, with plenty of room for carts to navigate.

All of that has changed. The clothing may still be cute, but it's all jammed packed together with no easy way to look at everything. Racks and racks of clearance merchandise, because no one is buying anymore.

Whoever came up with the new layout will hopefully be fired. It's like someone looked at what a great thing Target was and said, "We can do better! Let's totally mess everything up and people will think it's new and fresh!" What a dumba$$.

Sam's Club has an app where you can scan items as you put them in the cart, pay on your phone, and stroll out after flashing your phone to the door guard. I will never wait in line at Sam's again. Check and see if Costco has the same feature.

That’s funny because the rest of Sams club is so ghetto - looks trashy and cheap.
Costco is very good to their workers - they pay them a decent wage and give benefits to part time workers. Sans club is run by WalMart who does the opposite. I’m willing to wait in a Costco line for that reason.

I go to the Wheaton Target. I guess it hasn't gone through the dreaded renovation yet since it still seems fairly easy to find items...if they are in stock. The problem of half empty shelves has been going on there for years, weekend or weekday.

You must go to a Target that hasn't been renovated (read: devastated) yet.

Bar the doors when the renovators come!!

OMG, you may have just changed my life!! I didn't realize they delivered? Must investigate!

So back to Target - I have them deliver all paper products, free 2-day(ish) shipping and 5% RedCard discount - works well.

Costco paper goods are a 1000 times cheaper, red card or not. Nice try Target “executive”

I love Target! We go yo the Rockville one and the new Bethesda mini one. Also find it to be the best place to get our flu shots. (Each person gets a $5 gift card)

You obviously haven’t been lately. The Rockville one literally looks like a trash dump - I couldn’t even find Benadryl a few days ago.
Couldn’t find ice in the freezer - maybe they don’t stick it anymore, no employees know or care about that or anything else.
Totally bad customer service now too - I guess that no one knows where anything is including the workers so it’s hopeless.
