I’m not complaining. The CES is better than the Bethesda school my child was in before.

Op, my kids did not prep to get into CES ( formally HGC). Mainly because I was so disheartened by the curriculum (before the disastrous 2.0) that I was also teaching them at home using online and other resources. My kids studied at least for an hour after school doing enrichment curriculum that I put together.

They did very well all tests from MCPS and CTY-JHU. I encouraged testing because I wanted to know where they stand with my teaching.
Prep does not help because it is rote learning. Content is not taught.

Teach kids at home after school. No one cares about your kids education, more than you.

They did that before, with Inview, but still.. nothing happened in 3rd grade. They had the same spiel back then, too. That 2nd grade screening really doesn't mean much when it comes down to it, other than as a parent, having another data point about how your kid is doing. There is no tracking or specialized curriculum for your "gifted" 3rd grader.

I say this as a parent whose HSer is now in magnet and was identified as "gifted" in 2nd grade, too.

I'm just saying, take that info with a grain of salt.

Just a note from the flip side. My child did very well on InView, but was not identified as "gifted" at the end of 2nd because they had not assessed him as reading a year ahead of grade level. This was a shock given what I knew of his reading level, and ability to recount stories. Honestly, to this day I think they just hadn't tested him in ages. Accepted to the HGC program at the end of 3rd, and to the Humanities Magnet for middle school. He's done very well in each, so I'm guessing it was just one bum metric.

So...don't panic. It's just one test.
