It reminds me of the “white women’s tears” BS from a while back.
I’m just not inclined to lynch white people because it’s their turn...
Jail time is ludicrous, but prosecutors have to move the negotiations has far over as they can. I get it. It’s why I support the death penalty. It gives the prosecutors the ability to play hardball if the needle is on the table.
But for this? Meh.
I’m sure a fine would suffice. Maybe she could do some community service for at risk youth- help raise money to open more doors for kids who need it. Maybe pay for two kids to go to USC, since she literally only impeded spaces for two kids.
The lack of logic in this post is bizarre. She willfully committed fraud. What on earth does this have to do with "white woman's tears"? But at least we're clear there is one or more Trump supporters in the house.
I'm a Trump supporter and no way am I defending what Laughlin did. Good grief, she knowingly and willfully committed fraud - twice. Trump was elected into office rightfully You might have sour grapes over Trump being there but that doesn't mean that he is in his position fraudulently. Laughlin's daughters on the other hand....yep, fraud.
uh.. Trump bribed an official, and even paid the fine with his foundation's money.
Lack of logic indeed.
DP.

Now she might still do time but this will be a Martha Stewart type of rebirth. She will be fine and is willing to do the repair work. People will want her story more now than ever and she's deciding to steer that ship.
How in the world does anyone think she will come out ahead with this? I do think it will eventually die down and it's not necessarily the death of her career, but i do think there will be lasting damage.
1. Marion Barry was elected after the GD Bitch set him up.
2. Trump was elected president after the audio was released.
3. Martha Stewart.
She could definitely end up okay.
Marion Barry and Donald Trump both have people who support their politics and would vote for them regardless. And I think insider trading is viewed somewhat differently than paying $500,000 to have your kid sit on a rowing machine and be recruited for a sport she never played.

Counterpoints to your valid argument:
-I think it is morally defensible, this is just another example of privilege but on a grand stage. Her ultimate motivator was trying to give her children the best education, chance, etc available. That’s not an absurd way to feel as a parent. Correct, majority of parents can’t afford to do what she did and an even larger majority would never take an illegal action like she did, but the motivator is a common feeling amongst parents. Always striving for the best for your child.
-unlike other crimes, who did she and her husband directly hurt? If two other kids were disadvantaged by her lies, they’ll be able to collect their restitution via lawsuit.
smacks of privilege. . .
How exactly do rejected USC (or other college) applicants establish their standing as the individuals harmed? It would have to be done as a class action, and although formally that might result in being made whole the truth is . . . not really.
Then there would be the classmates who did get in. As long as Olivia Jade never went to class, I could probably deal with it if I were a USC freshman. If she showed up, I would scream. If she said a word I would want to choke her.
