The D3 programs are extremely competitive in part because they are often also top “academic” schools so grades are still heavily weighed. I don’t think playing for a top high school and top club is a guarantee of anything these days.

Coaches get info from showcases or club tournaments you might have attended. If you are interested in the quality of play at any particular D3 school, go see them play our watch their games on line during the Spring season. Rankings of D3 programs are also available on Inside Lacrosse. You can see what teams are on their schedule and how they've done in the past. Talk to your club and HS coach to see if he's familiar with the particular D3 program you're interested in.

Where do you think they got his info?

Depends on the academic rigor of the D3 school. Coaches can help but don't get carte blanche to get athletes in. Coaches will ask for an unofficial transcript and walk it over to admissions and get a read on getting their athletes in. Bowdoin is going to be tougher than Mary Washington.

My son who is a junior has received a number of personalized emails from D3 schools this past month saying he is on the A list or words to that effect for his recruiting class and now they are focused on the academic piece and want him to call the coach, visit, etc. Is this sincere and a common practice with the D3 schools?

Wow you are very persuasive. Your arguments are fact based and convincing. Thanks to you we all know that a Harvard graduate might earn more than a public college graduate on average. I am very glad you are able to make this very original and unique point. In addition, Landon would be favored over Largo HS in lacrosse. Who would have ever guessed that? Keep educating the masses about lacrosse and education. I am sure it is very valuable to the people who read this.

It's a losing argument to come onto a dc lax forum and try to tell people they are dumb for wanting to go to better schools and lacrosse helps in that regard. But you must be a public school lax apologist.

I do not know why this is even an argument on a lacrosse message board but the starting salary for a MD grad is about 47K the median is about $77. Google can be your friend.

Ha. Please don't have your lacrosse playing child apply to Ivy. I'll take my chances with mine becoming a killer but having 1 less person to compete against.

What does it mean to do well socially? How does one measure who is doing the best socially at an Ivy? There are many Ivys that lots of people would say have a miserable social environment. And, what is success in a career? $$ earned, job satisfaction, something else? It is easy to measure a GPA and a standardized test score, but those other things--I do not think an Ivy has any claim to superiority over the rest of the college landscape in social or career success.

Really? The dumber the student athlete at an ivy or equivalent, the more likely they will get into on campus trouble or worse and the more likely they will flunk out. Admittance and success at better schools leads to better lives usually.

That response is idiotic. Ted Kaczynski was purportedly really smart, and he went to Harvard ... Don't start with the "usually" part. Equating where a person gets into school with a better life is ridiculous.
